Hunter Of Artemis

Okay help me out here!! Someone told me that joke of saying attack helicopters when talking about transpeople was transphobic (Ex. I identify as an attack helicopter)….but I don’t get it😅. It may just be because I’m not trans but I always just thought it was a random joke that kinda reminded me of the Hotel Transylvania line (Monster, Human, Unicorn, what’s the difference?)
So…is it transphobic and if so please tell me why

@reefrules5000

i feel like it depends on the context. sometimes it's used as a joke around friends cuz they think it's funny, but sometimes it can be used maliciously to hurt ppl who aren't cis

It really depends on the context, being trans myself I get people saying the identity as a attack helicopter to make fun of me, but me and my friends say I identity as a dinosaur because it's funny, so it's really about the meaning

Depends on the context, for example it could be used as a way to mock others but it also could be used as a joke!

It's used to basically mock the "extremism" of identity (think, "everyone has such wild pronouns these days"/"everyone identifies as some weird [insert niche identity] these days"). In short it's meant to say if you can be nonbinary then I can call myself a ridiculous object

@Silent-Magi

If I remember right, the origins of the statement was a meme used to disparage the self-identity of trans people, if not outright trolling.

I think that while, yes, it originated as a joke to make fun of people who tell people what pronouns they use, and it can definitely still be used in that way, the meaning has somewhat changed in a way that means that it could be used to make fun of people who make fun of people who let people know their pronouns

I’ve seen it in the trans community, I’ve also seen it used in a transphobic method, it kinda depends who’s saying it ig? Cuz if you had a skit with Alex saying it, it would feel more on the reclaiming it side of things ya know? It depends a lot on context

@artbookgaming

It depends a bit but I would argue yes, like it originated as an insult masquarading as a joke towards non binary people, since some non binary people, xenogender people more specifically, find it easier to describe their gender by relating it to non gendered objects or creatures and some non binary people use neopronouns and it very much so makes fun of neopronouns. I get that some people use it just because it's funny, they come off as ignorant to me most of the time, sometimes it's genuinely funny if they make the thing they identify as into a pun or relate it to something relevant like an asexual says they identify as garlic bread, but to me as a non binary person who has heard it a billion times, it's just very frustrating a lot of the time, I still very strongly feel the insult use of it because it's the most common, so it just rubs me the wrong way.

Trans person here real quick, it really depends on context as it can be used to make fun of people who changed their identity but I myself made so many jokes like this (I'm a kid with free reign to put your identity when creating accounts on websites, what do you expect?) so even if it is used as an insult I can't see it as an insult anymore I just see it as a joke without any malicious intent

While it can be, personally, I think the whole attack helicopter thing is too stupid to be transphobic. As along as it doesn't come from malice, it's fine.

It really depends on who you ask. Because for some people, they’ll see it jokingly and not really care if someone says it. But others will be really offended, so it really is knowing your audience. Honestly, I think it really depends on if they are more liberal or conservative, leaning to how they’ll react to the joke

Like others have said, it depends on the context and who’s saying it. If can be used to mock trans sand non binary people (especially people who use micro labels and xenogenders), but it can also be used between trans /queer people as just a silly joke. But most of the time I hear it, it feels more like mocking.

I am someone who identifies under the umbrella term of trans. Gender is more specifically under the umbrella term of the umbrella term. I’m non-binary don’t think it’s a trans phobic thing like a legitimately some days my partner asks me did you wake up human today or are you gay Dino?🦕 so you’re fine

@Chaotic_Gremlin_Queen

I’m nonbinary and I think it’s kinda offensive. It’s basically like a homophobe saying “oh you can just change ur pronouns to anything? Well so can I! I identity as a vegetable now.” It’s a way to make fun of people who changed their pronouns.

I'm not trans, but I AM an ally; HEY ALEX!!!

@Joker.772

It originated as transphobic being popularized to make fun of people who say they identify as something so many people are wary of it. If your genuinely using it with good intent I think it's fine as long as the people around you know your intent but I don't recommend using it out in public cause it can be a sign that you suck being it your using a joke originally from people who suck.

I say it's a sense of humor and don't put too much thought into it. Don't ask for context and call it a day.

@Nico_Di_Angelo826

I’m nonbinary so I guess I can’t speak for a trans person but, it depends on who your with. I know some trans people who would think it’s funny. But I guess there are some people who don’t like it. I wouldn’t say it’s transphobic since it can be related to any identity not just trans identities (if that makes sense)

@MadiDaughterOfApollo-c3p

It depends. A kid told me he identified as a balloon right after telling me she/they wasn’t real pronouns. That’s transphobic. My lesbian friends were saying they identified as skittles. That’s not transphobic

Don't wanna attack anyone with this opinion But I think that no matter someone's feelings, no one has the right limit someone's way of talking or expressing themselves. It's extremely arrogant to believe that because you feel a certain way, people can't do certain things, if you don't like that just avoid it, and if what their doing is stupid, you'd just become the same level of stupidity by arguing with it As Jesus said love your neighbor like you love those close to you So - live and let live Peace ✌️
