I'm working hard making a long form video titled: "The Mothers Who Drink Alcohol While Pregnant".

What would you want to see discussed in a video topic like that?

@mesamom62

Interviews with the women who do explaining their choices would be good. As hard as it would be, showing babies and children who have been harmed by the alcohol use of their moms will be most effective in getting the point across that this should not be done. I'm sure you will think of many ways to tackle this subject.

Information about mothers who didn't know they where pregnant. Some women take a long time to get pregnant, sometimes condoms break, some are told they can't get pregnant. Usually many women stop drinking while pregnant, but not always before. Some might not drink a lot before or for the first few pregnant weeks before they know. It could be a beer, or 8 shots and 2 beers if its a drinking night. Not an every day drinking situation. 2-3 times a month.

"Distant alcoholism" where maybe you don't het black out drunk every day, or even drink that often, but the mere prospect of being told you can't drink makes you drink more and ignore all sound medical advice

During OBGYN appointments throughout pregnancy, do they actually explain why they can't drink alcohol, or just give them the list of no-go foods?

Talk about the effects on the fetus The effects on the hormones of the mother And can you talk about the effects of drinking on sperm? I heard it affects the quality of the embryo, is that too far out of the topic? Can you also talk about the effects during the different stages of pregnancy?

I commend you for attempting to tackle such a controversial topic. I’m sure you’ll do it justice with grace and respect, as always. 😊

I think it'd be a good idea to talk about varied reasons why a mom might drink, either she doesn't know the consequences, doesn't know she's pregnant, thinks it won't be a problem, or has a problem with alcohol and how alcoholism doesn't just look like someone downing a bottle of vodka on the daily, it can be a different form of alcohol like drinking 15 beers in a day, or it can be more sporadic use but still an addiction. I'd say it's also important to humanize the kids with fetal alcohol syndrome and show that they can have a good life still, even with a preventable disability

You know how during the time they used leaded gasoline, IQs were lower and once they stopped using leaded gasolines they improved? I wonder if there’s any results like that for when doctors started advising against drinking while pregnant. I’m sure it’s much harder to tell because some mothers still did drink when pregnant for multiple reasons. Just curious!

Were they honest with their doctors about their drinking? And if so, what did the doctor do/say? Also, a video about using marijuana while pregnant would be useful. I have my medical marijuana card and used while pregnant with both my toddler and newborn. I’d be interested in what other mothers who also used while pregnant say and their reasons compared to mine.

I’m pregnant now, and although I haven’t had a drink since I learned I was pregnant, I do occasionally crave one. I used to have a glass of wine in the evening to wake me up and help me get through the seemingly never ending cleaning and bedtime routines. That stimulant is what I miss. I feel like I’m dragging myself through the evenings now.

Honestly, the option for the women to have their identity masked a little bit. And have that decision made after their clip is filmed so they know exactly what they said. All topics would be good topics. But as part of the 1 in 6... That's the bit that would be the most important to me. Both watching this series. And if i was well enough to participate in a similar series

That a FASA child is not necessarily defective. I have a friend that is FASA and is now an RN. Most everyone in her life treated her as if she wouldn’t amount to anything b/c of FASA and ADHD. I think this would not be a quick video but have a lot of research involved. A really complicated subject. Maybe a series.

Everything my mother was a drug addict and an alcoholic and so was my father and my mother side, except for two ants all of them or massive alcoholics and drug addicts. I don’t understand why so many of my grandmother’s children came out like that she had 10 children And eight of them were messed up and the thing is the dad she had he ended up getting married and having other children all his children are normal with the women that the other woman that he had children what they got married with so I wonder also if it’s a genetic factor, that’s some thing I’d really be interested in!
