Jesse's Teahouse

I’ve put all new purchasing on pause for a few days while we wait for some sort of return to sanity on the China tariff situation, but anything on the websites that is in stock is already in the USA and will have no tariffs.

Amongst the damage the tariffs are doing is this massive confusion 😭

@SuperKendoman

With so much volatility it's crazy. Not only does this hurt big businesses but especially the smaller ones too 😕

@TitianX

I've had so many emails from companies I've bought from saying they're shutting down shipping to the US specifically while things get figured out, this really sucks for everyone

@en5357

Fun fact: Historically tea tariffs have led to some grand ol' revolutionary parties in the good ol' USofA

@JohnKay79

Just buy more locally grown tea... Or America made Yixing clay pots... Can't you just go to our high mountain high humidity ancient tea gardens..? Wait, you mean across the board tariffs don't make any sense? They're supposed to be specifically targeted to protect local businesses..?

@7003abc

Genuine question then I'm sure you've already considered: I know you can't just ship the tea to your EU facility and then ship it from there to the US to avoid the tariff because that would be considered an intermediate import country, but if there was some sort of processing of the tea in the EU-like for example if you were buying tea loose leaf and then putting it in packaging in the EU-would that be enough to make it count as a European product and be able to avoid the China tariff? Or would the cost and logistics involved of doing enough processing in Europe to have it count as a new product outweigh the cost of the tariffs? Either way I hate that all of this is happening to your business, I hope you are able to build a strong enough clientele in countries not affected by the trade war to weather the storm

I really respect and appreciate your transparency through all of this. Also your business ethos in general makes it really easy to support this business!

I'm so sick of this bogus. So many small businesses are being impacted, and even large businesses are like, "idk wtf is going on." I've seen a few posts online where workers shared that their companies cut off bonuses to prepare for the tariffs. Some won't ship to the USA.

Turning to humor in this kind of situation, I’m picturing the “just trying to grill” meme but with enjoying authentic quality tea 😭

This whole thing is insane My sushi is now 5.99 on sale on Wednesday instead of 4.99(i know first world problems but it's something I treat myself to once a week on payday and if of course the first thing I've physically had proof of changing prices (they wrote on the signs and said they cant get a new one cause it comes from overseas)

Now tell me how to have make in USA region-specific products like tea wine champagne coffee ?

@johnpaulk6769

Just charge whatever you have to for the terrif as a tax or something, it sucks but so does having most of our stuff made in china, unless its tea its typically a lesser quality

@adde9506

Good luck (or good planning) that you expanded to the EU. I suspect that the best of your energy would go towards figuring out how to mothball the US side of your business until we have a new government. It's a shame, we really need businesses like yours, for the happiness factor if nothing else, but economic ruin is probably going to be the linchpin of this thing. Don't get caught in it.

Hey Jessie I know I'm late on this one but since your distribution for Canada is out of the states would potential customers up north potentially be further impacted?. Other thought. Would setting up a possible distribution center in canada be a potential way for you to skirt some of your costs if this continues or gets worse? Importing to canada directly and then to the states may be a back door to save money. Just an idea I had.

@Bodhinaut

Well everyone. Looks like it’s time we start buying tea from Taiwan 🤷 I love my tea, but I don’t make enough money for an already expensive habit to go up in price 145% or whatever we’re at now 😔

@SeldomSanguine

Hopefully through resellers good tea wont become completely inaccessible

@namedrop721

Jesse I’m still gonna buy your tea at anything up to double the cost. Try to make it lower if you can but this is my personal protest money If this is America I can vote with my money and my money is not controlled by the orange one

@jamesseto1

Curious if you’ve considered shipping to Vancouver? Does that make any economic sense?
