Did you catch "How to Save $5000 in Your RV"?

I went over how a $7 multimeter from Harbor Freight can save you $1000's in your RV and we're just getting started.

We covered the DC voltage test - my #1 most used test on my multimeter.

And then went over how to use that test to fix 3 of the most common calls I get as an RV tech.

1. Dead Batteries
Think your batteries are dead? Set your meter to DC volts. Unplug your RV from shore power and place your black probe on the negative terminal of the battery and your red probe on the positive terminal of the battery.

If you have lead acid batteries and they're fully charged, you should be seeing a reading in the realm of 12.5 Volts.

Anything under 12 volts is technically considered a dead battery.

2. Dead Converter
Your converter charges your batteries while you're plugged in. So if you don't have DC power while plugged in, your converter might be dead.

You can test at the batteries or at the converter.

When plugged in you should see 13.5 V.

Anything under 13 and your converter is acting up.

3. Bad Thermostat
A lot of people assume when their AC stops working that they need to replace the whole unit, when a lot of the time it's just a bad thermostat.

Check for power in to the thermostat and then power out of the thermostat.

If power goes in but doesn't come out your thermostat is bad.
