🔹 ❛But My mercy encompasses everything.❜ 【Surah al-A’raf 7:156】
Allah says that His rahmah is large in quantity and powerful in its quality! Allah wants us to know, that no matter how evil a person is, but has genuinely repented to Allah and changed their ways, as well as returned the rights of others, His rahmah will encompass any sin and forgive him. This is why Allah says in an authentic hadith:
🔹 ❛O son of Adam, if you came to me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you met Me not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness nearly as great as it.❜ 【At-Tirmidhi 3540 | Graded Fair】
But we learn in another hadith that Rasulullah ﷺ said:
🔸 ❛Follow the right course, be devoted, and give glad tidings. Verily, none of you will enter Paradise by his deeds alone.❜ The companions said: ❛Not even you, O Rasulullah?❜ He ﷺ said: ❛Not even myself, unless Allah grants me His mercy. Know that the most beloved deed to Allah is done regularly, even if it is small.❜ 【Sahih al-Bukhari 6464 & Sahih Muslim 2818】
Perhaps some may ask: If it’s all about Allah’s rahmah, then what’s the point of putting in the work if my good deeds alone will not get me to Jannah?
The answer is: It is both Allah’s rahmah and our effort. When we put in a little bit of work, then Allah will give us His encompassing, maximum rahmah. The prerequisite is that we still need to do the effort, to show Allah that we are trying and doing our best!
May Allah make us among those who receive His rahmah in this dunya and in the akhirah.
