Where I’ve Been, and What’s Coming Next

Hey everyone!

I know… it’s been a while since my last update, so I wanted to take a moment to fill you in. Life has been a bit of a whirlwind lately!

This summer, I took an extended vacation, during which I asked my girlfriend to marry me 💍. After recharging, I had to tackle some unfinished business in my current companies. Now that those tasks are behind me, I’m ready to dive back in and bring you some raw, unfiltered programming goodness.

Will it be Golang-focused? Well, let me be honest with you—I’ve been spending a lot of time with TypeScript lately. I’ve been rebuilding one of my old projects, and sometimes, you just want to get things done and deliver a seamless user experience on the frontend. That’s not exactly Golang’s strongest suit.

But don’t worry; there’s plenty of exciting content ahead, and I can’t wait to hang out with all of you on stream again.

Stay tuned, and let’s get back to no BS programing!

Peace and love,
A

> you just want to get things done and deliver a seamless user experience on the frontend. That’s not exactly Golang’s strongest suit. I think I'm going to need some elaboration on this one. For the context — I'm old school. I've been writing CGI scripts in Perl in 2002, and PHP4 in 2004. My current project spouts static HTML and JS, and that JS talks to a backend that talks JSON. I know how HTTP works, and most of all, I've seen so many projects that promised to be agnostic if the code executes on the server or the client, that I know now it's mostly pipe dream. You do need to be aware if a piece of code is on the server or the client because in this way you avoid a whole class of problems, including security ones (oops, you accidentally exposed arbitrary SQL execution from the client, what could possibly could go wrong?). With this in mind, I fail to see what's so good there that Typescript and its ecosystem bring to the table that Go somehow fails to do. Maybe there is something, but what? I can't see how anything can make it worth it to bring in an interpreter to your server, or to have to deal with node_modules bigger than your momma (or everyone's momma rolled in one).
