Qigong with Kseny

Q: Hi Kseny, I’m feeling sick, depleted, and going through perimenopause. I’ve heard Yin Qigong can be helpful, but when I looked it up, I mostly found styles like the 8 Brocades, 5 Animals, and Yi Jin Jing, which I think are more Yang. I couldn’t find much about Yin Qigong styles so I'm confused.

A: Yes, softer forms of Qigong can be deeply supportive during times of depletion and hormonal shifts.
In general, Yang Qigong is more active and energising - strong stances, dynamic movement, a sense of "doing."

Yin Qigong, on the other hand, is slower, softer, and more restorative with gentle flows, natural postures, and a quieter focus.
When it comes to Qigong, how you do the movement can change the quality of your practice.

You can practise something like the 8 Brocades in a strong, expansive Yang way… or in a soft, Yin way, with gentle breath and space between movements to settle the body. The same form can serve different needs depending on your intention and how you approach it.

If you're feeling depleted, choose practices that are slow and soft in nature, that feel grounding and supportive. Let go of effort and performance focusing on how the movement feels, turning your attention inward.

That's where Yang becomes Yin.
