I live in Philly and been wanting to visit Sarina Society masjid, it’s about 45 min from me. Alhumdullilah most content is available online but Insha Allah I’ll be able to take a drive out there and sit in on a class or two soon

It is almost comical that Omar Suleiman, after years of standing in interfaith pulpits, praying shoulder to shoulder with rabbis and priests, softening the Qur’ān’s stance on LGBT sin into “pastoral care,” championing feminist-inspired calls for women on mosque boards and pulpits, marching under the banners of BLM and secular leftist politics, and treating hudūd and gender rulings as if they were cultural relics rather than divine injunctions, now appears in polite conversation with Sh. Shadee Elmasry as if he represents the voice of orthodox Islam. To conservatives, this is the very irony: a man who blurred the line between worship and diplomacy, who shares platforms with heterodox figures without disclaimers, and who bends Islam into Western liberal language, presenting himself as a mainstream authority, when in fact he embodies the very dilution that traditional scholars have warned against for centuries.

I don’t want to insult this brother, but Omar looks to me like he’s come out of her cosmetic dentistry makeover clinic. It’s a very serious military situation . A whole population is being wiped out. These guys are good scholars. But what experience do they have? They seem to shy away from any analysis , and stick to safe topics. I can’t give fatwa but if I were up there in the limelight, I would be advocated at least a bit of basic fitness, and some morale, plus ideas of developing more strategic independence et cetera for the ummah however limited. To me, it seems like the protests are paper tigers. In terms of actually altering the cost of the conflict they don’t do much. At least if we were fighting fit, there might be a sense of respect, and also the allure of fitness and health could win new members? The scholars seem to appeal to an academic mindset. What happened to the lads? Half these Muslim kids are on laughing gas and weed? lol imams, leaders, why don’t you do some karate or something at least get scratched and show you know what it’s like to battle. Instead, we have scholars that look like something of a 1980s American happy clappy consumer commercial. And if that hurts too much, why are you trying to lead us through a battle? Come on, land 10 press-ups at least. Consider yourselves hazed!!!
