"Hold up the train. Ammunition ship afire in harbor making for Pier 6 and will explode. Guess this will be my last message. Good-bye boys"
That was the last message of Vince Coleman, who heroically stopped a train heading for Halifax, when the French Cargo Ship "Mont-Blanc" carrying munitions collided with the Norwegian Cargo Ship "Imo" and was set ablaze. This message was sent right before the ship exploded in the largest explosion in history up to that point. To this day, with 9000 injured and 2000 dead, the Halifax Explosion is the largest accidental man made explosion in world history. Coleman did not survive the morning.
