It's been 2 weeks since I started my new IT help desk technician position and here is what I've learned:
I know absolutely NOTHING. I've had previous jobs that were technical support, I finished my boot camp in 2022, and I have a home lab for practice. All of this doesn't necessarily make me prepared for every job I get.
In tech, there are so many ways to do things and so many different types of software and devices. Just because you did it one way on your last job doesn't mean that's how it works on the current one. Every environment is different.
I've been humbled. I thought I knew my stuff but turns out I know nothing. But I'm ok with that, it gives me room to learn what I need to.
The moral of the story is to stay open to learning new things. You do not know it all, whether you have 1 year of experience or 25. Tech is forever changing and different companies do things differently. Stay humble and coachable.
