auto generated captions usually suck, so I feel like I’ve struck gold whenever I find a video with REAL captions

I always love to see it when captions have been specifically made for a video - the auto-generated stuff is very hit-or-miss and rarely reads naturally. I'm not disabled in a way that makes them necessary for me to enjoy a piece of content, but that accessibility is always an aspect worth considering as well

Only if they are made for the video, not auto generated, that's just when I want some funni.

I will ALWAYS advocate for subtitles. Especially if the sound mixing is dodgy.

as someone with audio processing issues, they help me properly understand stuff, so absolutely on everywhere its possible

Captions On if the creators provide CC and not auto generated by STT. I wish that Youtube never removed the community submitted CC as there are a lot of deaf people who relied on community submissions to watch their favorite creators. I myself am not deaf but my partner is and she always had them on. But now it’s a 30/70 split whether she turns them on because not everyone provides CC.

I have captions on only if it's not auto-generated. I absolutely love custom ones personally. Especially if they went through the effort of actually colouring/moving them. It adds so much

I normally love having captions on regardless of if I can hear it or not. It just helps with clarity :3

I have auditory processing issues, so captions are a lifesaver for me. Some people speak in a way that I just can't process correctly, and that isn't on them.

I usually don't roll with captions unless the comments point out funny stuff in them

Even if I specifically don't watch YouTube with subtitles, I HIGHLY advocate for them because it helps greatly with accessibility and if there's audio that's not very legible, it helps for those without impairments as well. Many people also find it easier to watch if they're reading along with the video. Subtitles are also optional, so no one is forced to use them if they don't want to. And lastly subtitles, compared to the revenue generated per video, is a lot cheaper to get done by a third party if you aren't able to do them yourselves

People who don't need captions can just choose to turn them off, but for the people who need them it is a matter of well, need. There's literally no downside to for the viewer in adding captions.

I watch captions on for like movies and shows, but for YouTube videos is a no no Edit: the ONLY YouTube channel I put them on for is TerminalMontage, they are amazing, and the captions that they use is funny

Wow. The results actually shocked me. All who don’t use them are missing out. CC really comes in handy sometimes when you hear a word you don’t recognize.

Depends on the video and if I'm near loud noises, though I love when videos have captions made specifically for the video. A while back, I noticed that Grian has captions on one of his videos thst was color coded for each person talking as well as their name. It's nice seeing that touch of accessibility in content since I have a suspicion i may be loosing some of my hearing
