I don't understand why SHE can't help carry some stuff. Humans travel. And Carry little things all the time the donkey is a partner who helps, not a servant so humans can be lazy.

I have two horses. You’re going to love having the critter. Bit of advice though. Get a new saddle pad. The one you have doesn’t fit right and is worn. Also you need to make sure the pack on each side is equal. Anything more than a few pounds will sore his back after a few days of long hiking. To check his back for soreness run place your fingers on either side of his spine and run them down his spine. If he flinch’s or pulls away he is sore and cannot carry a load. Also give him some grain after each day. Hay alone isn’t going to be enough to offset his calorie burn. Other than that have fun!

Wow .. me and a Danish girl Birgitte did the same in Morrocco back in 1982 - 2 dogs joined us and our 2 donkeys .. toughest part was leaving without the dogs - them vainly running after the taxi

Some people buy cars. Some buy real estate. Instead I’ve got a Tajik donkey named Serge. Along with him, but mostly thanks to him, since he carries our supplies, we explore the Fann Mountains in Tajikistan.
Also, along the way, two dogs started following us, and we decided to keep them—they will be great guards against the wolves, which are quite common in these mountains. So, that's our international team now: me, an American comrade, Serge the Tajik, and two dogs: Bulochka (‘a bun’ in Russian) and Bulochka Two. Dream team!
