Celebrate you for taking this step 🙌 “Sit with it. Sit with it. Sit with it. Sit with it. Even though you want to run. Even though it's heavy and difficult. Even though you re not quite sure of the way through. Healing happens by feeling.

Leaving one's own comfort zone is sometimes the best way to grow. Really hopeful things go well. You've got all the positive energy I can send coming your way.

Just remember that all therapists are different and sometimes you have to find a therapist that is compatible with you! Some people switch two or three times until they find someone who finally gets them. Also be honest with them if anything they do makes you uncomfortable, most will be willing to accommodate. Proud of you brother!!

I started seeing a therapist a month ago, and it's been a mix of good and bad, which is totally normal. Remember, therapy is a personal journey, so if you feel that you and your provider aren't clicking, don't hesitate to look for someone who better suits your needs. It's all part of the process of finding the right support for you. Major kudos to you for taking this step.

Glad you’re following through with it man! I think you’ll find that this will help so much with clearing up many of these implicit issues. Just stick with it. It won’t be easy, it will take a lot of work, but if you’re consistent and put the effort in, you’ll find that it is so worth it. Way to go!!

Ask your therapist about EMDR and bilateral stimulation. Writing your story down in a journal and sharing that with your therapist could also help. That's how I was able to face my trauma and pain. We're all here for you Josh

That first step is usually the hardest Josh - I feel so proud of you for having the courage to do this. You're a good man, Josh - and you deserve to be released from a past that refuses to leave you free to have the happiness you deserve. Thank-you for sharing your journey too, you'll never really know how many other men you are helping, but for sure it will be many. From one man to another, I feel incredibly proud of you man!

So glad you are seeking help. It can be scary at first but in the long run therapy can be quite beneficial. Please keep in touch on your sessions with your therapist.

Good for you for pushing through and going to your first therapy session. Don't feel obligated to discuss things you may be uncomfortable with at your first session. It may take multiple sessions before you can dive deeper into more in depth conversations. It also may take time to build chemistry with your therapist before progress is made, just from my own experience. Good luck and also ask yourself why you are truly reluctant to go to therapy, which might reveal what's going on.

The way my therapist described it is thus. When your trauma is stuck in the Lymbic portion of the mind, it constantly feels ever present and re-traumatizes you and keeps you stuck in the past. Bilateral stimulation coupled with EMDR gets stuff out of the Lymbic and into long term memory where it belongs. You'll never forget the trauma, but you'll be able to move past it once it's out of the lymbic system and into long term memory. That's why journaling helps, if you listen to some music while you journal (typing it out in Word) will use both hands, both ears, and both eyes as you write your story. You can also write it out with a pen but typing uses both hands aka BILATERAL not mono. It truly helped me by getting my story out of me and onto paper. One thing I learned when travelling various spiritual paths...90% of willpower is intention. If you want to get something out of you, do it practically and actually get it out of you by putting it on paper. You can also follow through by burning your problems after you've written them down, think gratitude festival from deep space 9. Intention is everything.

Also, going to therapy is a bit like dating...sometimes you find the right one first time out....but more than likely it takes a few tries. I went through 4 therapists before I found one that could actually help me. If the first one works, GREAT! If not, you are allowed to ask for a different one. Therapy takes time, but it's the best hour out of my week when I get to see my therapist. Having someone to confide in who won't judge you nor gossip about you is priceless.

Josh
Howdy everyone,
My first session of therapy is this evening. To be transparent, I spent the last couple days trying to find a way out of going. However, I continue to understand the importance of talking to a professional thanks to your comments, so no backing out. 🙌🏼
I’m anxious and a little scared to confront past trauma, but I’m confident going through it is better than suppression.
