I was the first and only woman in a 300 man construction group in 1978 after being in the AF (avionics electronics). When I retired a couple years ago, I was the only (and first) woman in a 500 man tech group. The physical harrassment has slowed down over the years (aging out of that, but unfortunately never entirely), some of the verbal abuse remains, but I left with more hope because the younger folks coming up are much more encouraging and accepting. I teach the kids in my neighborhood electronics and basic tools now, and it's so much fun watching them get excited. OT - I truly need to thank you, you saved me from a major mistake. I bought my first table saw last week, and went completely thru the instructions setting it up. I do NOT trust bladed things, I treat them like snakes. I searched for info on what the riving knife was and found your video. Wasn't sure my setup was correct, I cautiously tried a cut, and yep, it bound. Thanks to you I knew to stop and correct the problem. I now have my saw blades stored separately with the appropriate riving knife. Going back thru your videos - so much to learn!

Worked as a carpenter in Tucson in 1975.... Latina plumbers were the norm. They didn't take any crap either.😀

I didn't know there was such an organization! I'll be 61 in July and just started teaching myself carpentry. Unfortunately, lumber is expensive, so I guess this will be a slow process. Wish I'd started this endeavor years ago!

Women have a big role to play in construction. What do you think is the ideal way to structure construction teams/companies?
