My favorite obsolete digital 90's recording tech was mini-disc, and I still have my full size, not walkman size, Sony mini-disc deck & several dozen mini discs...the Optical in/out was very practical.

Oh man, I would get that unit refurbished. Maybe pinch roller cleaning, Is it the belt inside? So many questions. Maybe the tape didn't break. You could flatten it back out hopefully. Good luck to you and thank you for your great work. ❤

Had the same issues myself... dat tapes sucked and md data was just as bad

One of the more unfortunate aspects of the archival process. DAT tapes such as this, which comprised the predominant master format during the '90s, are notoriously fallible thanks to the fussy, aging machines used to play them. The tape pictured was a backup, but I haven't always been so lucky. #dattapedisasters #90stechnology
