Interesting. I know not everyone has this luxury, but personally, the police in my area are not corrupt to the best of my knowledge. Still, the justice system is a political witch hunt these days, so I definitely understand the desire to just avoid it entirely.

Unless someone comes looking for the crook, and I mean really looking for him, that body is staying 5ft under untill somone deckdes to build a shopping mall there. Not want to sound like I've done this before, because I haven't, but CSI-style shows really oversold the public on how competent and efficient cops are at their job. Some adult guy went missing, for all they know, he made some enemies and skipped town, no need to suspect that he's dead and uproot the entire district to prove it. There are speeding tickets quota to be met.
