One of the fun things about this is learning about these historically interesting and mildly obscure planes and then going and flying them in war thunder.

Really looking forward to this one! Military Seaplanes are a fascination of mine as a relatively short-lived but very innovative niche that was quickly killed off by the arrival of the helicopter

Oh yes, the Sea Dart. One on display at the San Diego Aerospace Museum.

I know they’re full of compromise, but I love the weird and plucky fighters. Kinda reminds me of a ww2 version of the harrier.

Love your channel, would you ever consider doing a video on the Ekranoplan I think it’s called? The A40 Albatross is another cool sea plane.

I'm going to flatter myself and imagine this is all because of the rant I went in about how fascinating I found seaplanes and their operations after you covered the last Japanese aircraft. 🥲 Very much unsung heroes, whether as utility, rescue, patrol, or fighter aircraft. People tend to compare them to land planes, especially the fighters, and say "see, the performance sucks, why would you waste your time", but the idea wasn't to have the best fighter you could, it was to have a fighter where no other were able to fly. A A6M2-N might suffer badly against a P-40, but if you fly a bunch of them out to a small island and use them to attack bombers that are flying far past the range of escort, they do well enough. And like most military equipment, they change the equation by presenting a level of threat that didn't exist previously, even if that threat can be dealt with by superior equipment. You will still need to create a force sufficient to deal with the threat, which is more difficult than just flying in with a few old planes and taking control because there is no opposition at all. If you don't have the resources to send a fleet with carriers and bulldozers to build a new airstrip on every island, these are a good alternative. And they have character

Not A Pound For Air To Ground
Since it's summer time where I am, it's a great time to get out on the water and cool off. So this month's Tuesday video will feature the most successful seaplane fighter of the Second World War - the A6M2-N Rufe.
Although it wasn't particularly effective, the Rufe had quite an impact on post-war planners worried about their airfields being obliterated. Friday's video is an in-depth look at the jet-powered seaplane fighters of the Cold War that resulted from their concerns. There were more than you might think!
Hope you enjoy these two and are having good summers/ winters wherever you happen to be!
