Ruminate

Hey guys, I had to take down my breakcore video because after the mixed reviews on the video I honestly struck a deep cord with the community. Im sorry to all the artist I misrepresented, you guys for real bit me on this one. The video was poorly scripted and researched. Although you guys think the video editing is great I think its subpar for my quality (inconsistent design philosophy). I got a lot of love from the video, up over 2k subs since uploading, and I got a lot of criticism from it. After some deep assessment im probably putting a hiatus on musical content. Im not a musician, I dont have the theory and or the prowess to call myself an analyst on one either. Im just a kid making videos about stuff he thinks are cool. For now, there is going to be a hiatus on music themed video essays. Don't worry, im not going anywhere, I just need to step back and take some time to reflect on the way I should continue video essay themed content if the "essay" portion is not holding up. Thanks for the support. It was a crazy ride, but a man must know when he messed up and learn from his mistakes.

@exyl_sounds

Nah man you’re a perfectionist, video was sick as hell, I don’t remember noticing anything wrong with the design language I thought it was unique

im a pretty big breakcore fan and i really enjoyed the video and didn't see a problem with it. the editing style was great and the information was solid. you don't need to know theory to be able to analyze and understand music, theory is a biased idea in the first place. if you like music and you know enough about it to understand why you like it, that's a great position to be in.

Dude, your video led me to check out breakcore and i love it!!! I've heard of it before but i was put of by people arguing about what is and isn't breakcore. I think the video had some good recommendations for beginners like me so thank for introducing me to the genre <3

I personally really liked the new video, it actually got me back into a genre I hadn’t listened to in a while

Hey man, don't feel bullied and dont listen to people trying to gatekeep or tell you why you dont know things, that's an asshole. Its impossible to know everything going into a new subject, and listening to music and learning about and finding new music is about discovery, not feeling bad about what knowledge you lack or misunderstand. Your video made me happy as fuck to watch, between the editing and visual style and the choices of songs to feature, it was sick as hell. it was excellently put together, and as someone also learning about breakcore, it helped me look further into the genre and increase my interest, and for a video essay I would call that a mission accomplished. Keep at it man, you're good at this shit, you'll find the right words.

Hey Ruminate. I'm an massive breakcore fan for a long time now and gatekeeping is literally the biggest issue present in our little community. Don't let it get you down, those people cannot see that genres evolve. Your video was awesome and correct.

I think you're being too hard on yourself. I didn't know your channel. I subscribed as soon as I watched your breakcore video and I actually came back to the video, only to find out it has been deleted. You will get a lot of shit, no matter how satisfied you are with the final result because this is the internet. That being said, I really hope you try again. You will make mistakes, of course, but you will also learn from them. Don't let the comment section get you down. Keep going ;) ps: your editing was sick btw

@OfficialCypress

Don't take anything those weirdo gatekeepers say seriously. Breakcore has evolved passed the original definition of the genre. Surprise surprise we aren't in the 90's anymore, genres evolve with the time and people who produce it. The largest argument I see is "tHiS iS JuNgLe" as seen on 90% of breakcore videos. Breakcore is just a generic way of titling music with similar styles. As a listener, if a tune has a decent instrumental with breakbeats that occasionally glitches/chops it gets a pass. The gatekeepers are just mad that the genre has evolved passed an amen break on loop while the dj spams the chop/loop features on the cdjs. Best thing to do when you get a gatekeeping comment is to reply with "didn't ask." because literally no one asked for their opinion.

Not a music expert myself but I really enjoyed your video. Sad to see the response was negative enough for you to take it down, but I support your growth nonetheless.

@Hyoct

What are you talking about? The video was outstanding. Don't listen to a bunch of elitist gatekeeping redditors about what they think breakcore is, because that in itself is missing the entire point of a music genre: creativity and multiple paradigm of expression. Listen man, I'm a software developer who's made apps with hundreds of thousands installs. If I had to take down every app because some user or elitist programmer didn't like the design or said it was shit because some minor bug, I wouldn't be a software developer. You should definitely bring the video back.

I loved the video, but I understand why you don’t want it here anymore. Thanks for introducing me to so many great artists, and I look forward to seeing more from you when you want to return to YouTube. 💛

@Epitaph0660

Your video on phonk and the now deleted breakcore music got me to subscribe to you because I like these types of videos and I think it was really well done even if you called sewerslvt a breakcore artist. As you said, "modern internet breakcore" like severslvt's music has a very vague definition and is mostly a separate thing from the 90's breakcore. Imho you should try and maybe do more research and remake the video focusing more on the dnb/ambiance style of music you see from sewerslvt and similar artists because that is the underground genre you were mostly referring in the original video and because I believe that will attract the audience you originally made the video for (keep in mind that i am just an internet man expressing my speculation and wishes so I might be wrong regarding your intentions so if I got it all upside down just ignore me and take this as a good review from a similarly inexperienced internet man on the said deleted vid regarding the negatively criticised seweslvt part). Just listen to the guy on twitter, ignore the community and enjoy the songs as we all "amateurs of the genre" do.

@rzomunna4019

as someone who enjoyed the video, but is not knowledgeable on the subject what do you think were your biggest mistakes?

@juanestebanmauro5280

I think that you did a great job on the Breakcore video, but stepping back from music essays is not a good idea. If anything, right now is the best time to try to do something different. Maybe, just leaving Breakcore on hold for a while, and working on other genres, can help you get some valuable experience on music essays as a whole. Also, just ignore bad comments. There is always someone that whines for no reason, especially on music essays/comps/tops, so it's better if you don't let them get in your head.

@Nightshade_goblin

Putting aside the content of your videos, what program do you use for editing? Your visual style is really unique and I'd like to step up my editing skills to a level where I don't need to feel uncomfortable comparing myself to other creators such as yourself.
