Was based there for about 6 months in 1980. A lot of field time, amazing history there. A lot of WW2 litter out in the bush, we were always stepping on the stuff in areas that were fought over. And a lot of stories and rumors about Yamashitas treasure, but we never found any of it. Lol. Our jungle survival instructor was one of MacArthur's personal guides and was also a resistance fighter. Had some incredible wsr stories.

My wife and her family are native to Misamis Oriental in Northern Mindanao. There are stories of Japanese occupation, massive theft by the Japanese, and buried treasures. All of the WW2 stories I have heard about the Philippines center on Corrigador and Manila. I would love to see more about WW2 in the rest of Luzon, Cebu, Mindanao, and any other islands in the nation. The rest of the Pacific War and fortification involved are a sorely neglected.
