Which would you pick?
• World-class genius in one domain—master any single skill or subject.
• Competent in everything—quickly learn and perform any task at a good level.

Jack of all trades, master of none, yet often times better than a master of one

As someone who is generally competent at everything, it’s alright. I rather be a master at something so I can have an identity and purpose. It absolutely sucks in working environments too where you don’t stand out because your not the very best so you get ignored OR even worse your boss figures out you are competent at everything and puts as many jobs on your back as possible and you get nothing for it.

Being top tier in one subject can be very beneficial financially, but it clashes with who I am as a person. I love having several interests and learning different skillsets

If you are a genius in engineering you’ve pretty much won at life

Competency in ruling a nation is way better than all politicians combined in one...in fact competency in ruling the world would make a person technically a god..

17% advances humanity by leaps, 82% stabilizes and publicizes advancements, make money and entertainments out of it, add it to essentials in daily life following modernization. 1% lol.

If life has shown me anything it's that "geniuses" suffer alone alot.

As tempting as it is to master one thing. I think I'll choose being competent in everything. Simply because most problems you face are typical common ones. And being so versatile will give you more opportunities. Plus, competency is slowly starting to be more rare as time goes on. But eh, at a decent level I can do plumbing stuff, self defense, programming, engineering, driving, etc. You may not have fully mastery, but you can do anything to a good standard. Now that's a superpower. EDIT: perhaps also more competency in being able to write on a small screen without having to edit typos and errors lol

The society we live in values specialisation much more than it does all roundedness. We have so many jobs and specialties and only thousands of different specific skillsets and jobs combined can make society function, thats just how the world we live in works. That's why being a genius and specialising in one specific thing is much more valuable than being a jack of all trades as, within the confines of our society, it allows an instant mastery in one specific job and thereafter instant success. Think of all the famous and influential people you know, how many of them are really good at one thing which caused their success (whether it's acting, maths, music, politics, or something else), and think of how many are famous and influential because they have the novelty of being competent at everything. That's all the second option is, a useful novelty.

Competent at everything would also include physical activities. I'd love to be able to obtain a decent body amongst other things.

i'd much rather be decent in everything than extraordinary in one.

if i could be a genius in one thing, i'd be contented and happy and at peace about that

Have to pick up genius at one field here, this option doesn't reduce your competence in other areas, you can still master them atleast get decent in them normally. But being genius in a field can literally change the global scenario, you don't have to be good at other things if you are Albert Einstein of a field.

I don't need to be genius. I just want to be competent

People who are extraordinary in a particular discipline are the ones who make the largest difference. Innovation is a result of uniqueness and laser- sharp focus in that specific domain.

As someone who is competent but not great at anything, I'd prefer to master one thing. Sure as of right now I can do lots of things well, maybe even good, but that leaves me unreliant on others. It's not great, quite lonely really. If I were a master carpenter for example, I could then trade my superior skills for others who are masters in their fields and have the best of it all. Build exquisite furniture, trade it for master Stoneman to build my house walls. Etc etc
