Hyderabad is worth more than benguluru. Don't just see the startups or the number of industries. See how the city is creating healthy atmosphere for citizens, clean habitat and stress free rental properties. Give some 5 years, then Hyderabad will become magnet for many GCCs.

Bengaluru has so many problems. It's an unplanned city, the traffic is insane, and the destruction of greenery is happening at an alarming rate. Once called the “Garden City,” it’s now more like a concrete jungle choking on its own growth. Infrastructure is not keeping up with the population boom. Drainage is outdated, public transport is stretched thin, and every monsoon brings chaos. Karnataka really needs to develop 2–3 satellite towns or smart cities, preferably closer to Bengaluru, to ease the pressure. These new hubs should be well-planned from the ground up—proper roads, green zones, solid waste management, rainwater harvesting, and affordable housing. If done right, they can attract startups and companies looking for alternatives to Bengaluru’s chaos. And it’s not just Bengaluru. Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, and Delhi all face similar issues—unplanned growth, severe congestion, pollution, and infrastructure that's either collapsing or severely outdated. Cities like Gurugram and Noida were supposed to be modern urban models but are already struggling with poor drainage, water shortages, and reckless construction. The government launched the “Smart Cities Mission” in 2015, but progress has been uneven. According to multiple reports from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, many projects are delayed or incomplete. Urban planning in India still lacks integration, long-term vision, and above all, accountability. India is expected to have over 50% of its population living in urban areas by 2050. That’s hundreds of millions of people. We simply can’t afford to keep building cities without a plan. We need massive investment in infrastructure, strict building codes, long-term urban planning, and most importantly, transparency and execution. But sadly, our politicians and sarkari babus are more focused on vote banks and lining their own pockets. Urban India is on the brink of a crisis. What we need is bold leadership, citizen participation, and a complete overhaul of how we imagine our cities.

Bengaluru has moved far beyond being India’s tech labour haven—today, it stands as the undisputed innovation capital, with over 400 Fortune 500 companies making it their home. From AI Centres of Excellence to digital-first breakthroughs, the city’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are transforming the way the world’s biggest corporations operate.
“The primary reason for Bengaluru, in my opinion, is the access to a great talent pool here,” says Sreekanth Jayabalan, VP & CIO at Kimberly-Clark, which recently set up an AI CoE in the city. Their Bangalore-built AI platform Maestro is already saving millions globally.
Roche is flipping the traditional GCC script—“Our centre is built primarily for innovation,” shares Raja Jamalamadaka, Country Head, Roche IS India. At Roche, innovation isn’t an add-on—it’s the core, leading to breakthrough products and even patent filings. And at Daimler Truck AG Innovation Centre India (DTICI), CEO Raghavendra Vaidya shares their game-changing shift: “We decided that the accountability of making data and AI and the business benefits of that will be driven from Bangalore.”
From Walmart to Goldman Sachs, Target, IBM, and BlackRock, the message is clear—Bengaluru isn’t just where the work gets done. It’s where the future is being built.
