This poll so far is depressing and sadly representative of the US population. 18% for “own research” compared to 15% of the US population that denies climate change being real :(

Climate scientists do their own research, too. More so than "Someone who did their own research". That's the difference between scientific research and internet search or intuition based thought experiments.

Someone that can detect patterns and make assumptions based off those patterns. It's painfully obvious we've been told since the 60s that the world was ending in 20 years. That fact alone would make anyone question "experts" that seem to always seek funding handouts for their research. It's just very clear climate scientists aren't being genuine about who or what is the legitimate cause, nor how it can be stopped without sentencing atleast 6 billion people to starvation in the largest desindustrialization effort ever taken by human kind, a sort of final hubris for attempting to assume the posture of godliness. I don't have the answers, but neither do the people that get paid to ask the questions.
