I got out of the Corps in '92. All I wanted was to distance myself from it. I didnt know about Somalia till years later. One night, the documentary came on. It was the night before the movie release. The documentary made me sick. I had to go the next day and watch the movie. The movie was absolutely parallel to the documentary. But as a Marine, there is none more entertaining than FMJ. YOU SHOULD Do a poll, FMJ, Heartbreak Ridge, Boys in Company C ! All Marine bro!!

I have a hard time watching black hawk down without getting pissed off.. a lot like Platoon. Hamburger Hill was a classic.. oh, We Were Soldiers too.

The opening of FMJ was hilarious as a teenager. On Christmas Day during basic, the DI’s allowed us to watch it as a way to occupy us for a bit so they could go see their families. Full Metal Jacket’s basic training scenes aren’t funny when you look outside your window and everything looks just like the movie.

Black Hawk Down is by far the most superior movie in this list.

Full Metal Jacket is always my recommendation for people who want to know what basic is like. (Even though it's not quite like that anymore, it's still a good one to watch to prep mentally)

I watch FMJ at least once per year if not more frequently. I've watched it at least 2-3 times this year. My favorite scene is "These boots are made for walking" in Vietnam or "Me love you long time". I'm smiling now just thinking about it.

FMJ You can't beat the storyline between R. Lee Ermy and Pyle. It's also a movie of origin and outcome. You can't beat it.

Do a “you can only shoot one type of round” FMJ, JHP, AP, JSP, Tracer

Tbh r Lee ermey’s drill instructor doesn’t hold a candle to modern drill instructors. He just wasn’t that scary or terrifying.

@ZXephmor-1

R Lee Ermey in FMJ was the greatest thing ever, and the fact all of that was impromptu from his service as a DI is the icing.

Easiest choice for me. Black Hawk Down. That gritty, raw, as it is, no bullshit, what you see is what you get vibe with a perfect sound-track. I sometimes jam it at work or in the car. Its part of that sound-track to my life.

FMJ was the best. Jar head is pretty respectable

My option goes to BHD because it's more grounded, less 'artistic', less 'humane' than FMJ. It shows heroism with the clearest colors one can ever see it in this world, and because of that it's more special than Kubric's title, which kinda loses itself in great and iconic scenes and dialogues, yes. But it loses itself. It shows the mental toll of war and it's important as such. But still, BHD is, by all means, a better war movie told from the military POV.

When we were deployed, one of my roommates watched Black Hawk down before EVERY raid. It got to where I knew the lines and scenes even with my eyes closed.
