The Solo Summiteer

Hey folks hope you are well.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone asking about my injury and offering advice.

I’m now nursing 3 different injuries 🤦🏻‍♂️. I saw a physio on Monday and he believes they are all linked. The main thing is, he doesn’t believe they are joint issues but all muscular. My lower back is slowly getting better. It’s ok when I’m walking but seems to seize up a bit when I’m sat down (e.g. driving).

I’ve also developed a pain in my hip. He believes this to be tightness in my glute muscle. Then there’s the problem with my ankle which he believes is related to a tight calf muscle (he’s taped this up).

After a torturous 😬massage he gave me some stretches to do each day. Hopefully things will get better over the next few weeks 🤞.

I managed to get out for a low level walk at the weekend. No mountains or camping involved but it was nice to explore an area of the Lake District I’d not visited before on a beautiful autumn day. I did a bit of filming and will get a video out for you guys at the weekend. No drama but some lovely autumnal scenes and a bit of peace and quiet 🙏🏻; oh, and a bit of bagging 😁👍

All the best - Dave

Injuries are so frustrating and they seem to come in multiples some times. They’ll get better with the right exercises. Hope it’s a speedy recovery!

Don't forget to REST Dave. Important to keep the joints and muscles moving, but vitally important to build in rest days. From my comments over the years, you know I've been round these houses before!!

Get well soon! I’m 55 and also get reoccurring lower back pain but with constant specific exercise I keep it at bay, the problem for me is tightening, so once loosened off it goes away. I used to be a rock climber, then long distance walking, then road cycling and now back into wild camping and hill walking. Have to be careful with my knees but otherwise still quite fit. I carry an Akto, and an Enan the rest of the time, but my base weight is 12.5lbs summer and about 14lbs in winter max and often lighter. For me that’s the way key to not getting injuries, I always stay at 10% or less than my body weight, not 20% as is often quoted. Back in the 80’s to late 90’s my base weight was around 35lbs still kept the notebooks, it’s amazing the progress that’s been made! ATB Nick

But Dave ? You’re not a bagger 🤣🤣🤣 I’ve no idea how old you are (I’d guess about 68-70 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣) but you are super active and obviously use you body a whole lot more than 98 % of people and also look after yourself 💪👊 I think that one of the perils of being active is the constant Spector of injury 🥲 Rest up as best ya can and keep producing excellent hard core mountain videos- I’m 63 and last year backpacked the Pennine way twice with my dog - I don’t think I’m in anywhere as good shape as you but next year I’m moving from Sussex ( no outdoors) to Derbyshire where I can resume climbing on the grit and have access to the lakes and Scotland 💪💪👊👊 then I’ll start bagging 👌 last year I bagged all 137 trigs in Sussex in ju
