i think i started genuinely getting into it around 2019, but i also have a memory of seeing an UN owen was her YTPMV on TV for some reason, which i did find and it's dated all the way back to 2011, so i've been really really lightly aware of it all that time back

@AnAnonymousAuditor

Been aware of touhou for a while. I'd say I became a bit more aware of it around 2017, strangely enough, through Initial D (indirectly). 2017 is when I watched Initial D for the first time and loved it (it's single-handedly what made me become a car guy). More relevant to this, I also loved the eurobeat soundtrack from Initial D; and while looking up various eurobeat tracks on youtube, I stumbled upon a playlist of a bunch of eurobeat remixes of Touhou music; and you can probably guess the rest.

@Darkusaido

Okay so since 2018 I've seen a lot of references but never knew it was all Touhou - Night of Nights Donald Trump remix, "Yatagarasu" from Geometry Dash... It all faltered away as in 2020 I became an Undertale fan and focused on everything related to that. Funnily enough, I got recommended the Jzboy video Asriel vs Marisa thing. I genuinely got confused. Well, it all happened in 2022, while watching TheKing35's Undertale DDD Asgore animation, they used a powerful Border of Life remix as Asgore's theme ...I was like, my heavens...why does it sound so good? Well, although I did discover the song's origin in January, I let it slip for months...until at the end of August, I fell in love with that song again...and then I realized, there must be more of the good music like these. Although back then I was obsessed with Border of Life only, I knew before, that sooner or later, I will get obsessed with Touhou music. A week later PCB was my first Touhou game I played. Then I discovered IN soundtracks... And so it goes...

@PhantomGato-v-

Learned about Touhou in 2020? I think? But was far too intimidated by the sheer amount of content and couldn't find myself starting it. I ended up starting it properly at the tail end of around 2022? And now look at where I am.

@TheSutanian

My first touhou exposure was youtuber Hopdiddy when he made his video “EPIC SEIZURE TIME 5” and it used COOL&CREATE’s version of “Flowering Nights” and I wanted to look up the music so bad that I ended up finding a bunch of other musicians like Ezel-Ash, Demetori, and SSH & Aether. It defined a lot of my music tastes.

Knew it for a while like back in the 2010s somewhere between 2016 where I saw the flandre and mystia ronald mcdonald ytpmv but didn't know where the actual music came from until 2022 I saw a sprite of Nue from a fangame which in that moment I was like "she was coolest thing ive seen" until another year later in 2023 thats when I became a touhou fan and found out Nue came from here thank you ZUN for this masterpiece!! 🎉

@BlocktheLocalMokouFan

I entered around 2020, just in time to witness western Touhou Project's golden era. But since then, I couldn't help but realise how often I'd see references leading back to this series and the memes that lead back to this specific community. Honestly though, this is one of my favourite rabbit holes I dove deep into and one of my favourite communities to consider being in mostly because of the sheer dedication and quality of fanworks produced here.

I saw Touhou stuff since my Volcaloid phase back in 2013 but I wasn't really into Touhou, I didn't even know what it was until 2021.

One of the few ancient old ones still here, feels weird. Anyway, discovered touhou EARLY EARLY 4chan through niconico vids being shared on /gif/ as .swf files. Immediately went to the source where I could and made group challenges with friends for 1cc lunatic. iirc prob 2007, give or take a year.
