Surgery is done on the human body to get rid of an injury or repair a non-functional organ. Technology brings Perfections. Robotic surgery is a modern surgical technique that uses advanced robotic systems to assist surgeons in performing complex surgical procedures with greater precision and control. The system comes along with a camera and arms to control it. In this video Dr Sunil Dash, Director- Joint Coordinator Unit at AMRI Hospital Bhubaneswar & HOD of Orthopedics at Hi-Tech Medical College and hospital, Bhubaneswar specialized in robotic surgery has shared his experience of 300 plus Robotic Assisted Surgery done till date with minimal complications. Dr has described two types of Technology involved in surgery in simpler language 1. First is "Computer Navigation Knee Replacement Surgery" where it involves a set of methods that use computer technology for surgical planning & for guiding Drs to perform surgery. 2. Second one is "Robotic Assisted Surgery" where the doctor can insert the camera into the area to be operated and control it with the help of the arms provided by the system. The camera connected to the computer console displays a precise 3D image of the surgical area to allow a doctor to understand the situation more precisely. The Robotic arms help to cut the bones & place the implants with perfection.
Dr has addressed many advantages of this advanced surgical technique: 1. It allows surgery to be precise where accuracy is paramount for successful results. 2. It involves small & fewer incisions that results in reduced postoperative pain, less blood loss, and a faster recovery time for patients compared to traditional open surgery. 3. Due to less pain, Physiotherapy can be done easily 4. Surgeons can change the plan if they want to 5. Surgery will be done independently by Robot as per surgeon given data. So Surgeon can recheck the cut measurements done by robotic arms 6. Robots are fully controlled by experienced surgeons who are specially trained in using these advanced tools. 7. Early results are satisfactory to both patients & surgeons 8. It is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA)
The doctor acknowledges that many people have fears and misconceptions about robotic surgery. 1. There is minimal increase in expenditure. It will cost around 20-25% hike in rate than Conventional surgery. 2.Technical error can happen due to power cut or machine shutdown but Robot will give indications if any error arises during surgery so that surgeon can rectify it immediately. 3. Small risk of infection similar to risks of traditional open surgery Complications of Conventional & Robotic Surgery is almost the same.
Lastly Dr advised some key majors: i) *Trust your Surgeons.* Ones Health is in the hands of Expertise and experienced doctors ii) One should take their *health* related issues *seriously* . iii) *Early treatment* is advisable iv)Technology brings perfection but only with experience. v) *Don't Panic* vi) *Take second option* before any surgery vii) *Have faith* and belief in *God* , your *Dr* & *Technology*
Overall, the video serves as an informative piece, educating viewers on why robotic surgery is becoming a preferred option in orthopedic procedures, highlighting its technological advancements and the improved patient outcomes it can achieve.
