Okay am I going crazy?? I was using the Wayback Machine to look up the Apple Website from October 10, 2012… why does the iPhone 5 have an iPod screenshot?

And also…why does it show iOS 7 in 2012 🤔

Best guess is the wayback machine is placing wrong files into the wrong dataset. Possible the iPod was a screenshot that was shortly changed by Apple on error, but somehow the files got jumbled and took that screenshot instead of the official. Also it says 200$ which means this is the iPod, no iPhone cost 199$ starting price. Likely file corruption and misplacement.

Seeing a phone costing $199 in 2025 feels off

Can't understand the iPod slip up. But the image itself might be anachronistic because the underlying asset didn't change name over the years?

The iOS 7 they showed could have been a super early development build, but why they would show it early i have no idea

I do see the iOS 7 thing but it looks like an iPhone 5, just with the iPod Touch price.

Who remembers when iPhones only cost $200 if you traded in your old iPhone and it was only a 2 year payment plan😂😂

I remember when this phone was new same with the iPod touch 5th gen. I was 11 years old never thought I would ever afford an apple device back then lol. I bought an iPhone 5 a few years later in high school loved that phone.

That’s gotta be a bug. Of course the iOS 7 Software with the iPod Logo on the top left corner would’ve probably come from the 2012 iPod Touch 5TH Gen., but putting that onto the iPhone 5, it is accurate though, since the iPhone 5 did get iOS 7, as it was supported from iOS 6 all the way to iOS 10, while the iPod Touch 5TH Gen. was supported from iOS 6 to iOS 9. The iOS 7 Software in there should’ve had at least the Carrier part in the top left corner to have it fully indicate the iPhone, or at least having it say No SIM on it, as another way to indicate it. But yeah, with that, to see iOS 7 as a starting iOS Software on an iPhone 5, that would be shown on the 2013 iPhones 5C & 5S, while the starting iOS Software on the 2016 iPhone SE 1ST Gen. is iOS 9.
