He influenced the future of Rome by ending the christian persecutions and reintigrating them into administration. And also his military reform to the emphasize cavalry, updating Roman doctrine after the decades of Persian defeats.

Probably the most controversial emperor of the 3rd century. He did a lot right but his position was constantly undermined, but that wasn't entirely his fault. Though how he handled Postumus was pretty bad imo that dude was a bad general and managed to outwill this guy. But he definitely played a major role in how the military deployed its calvary units.

If he had acted immediately he would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives and much destruction that never was fully repaired.

"Trajan conquered the Dacians, under King Decibalus, and made Dacia, across the Danube in the soil of barbary, a province that in circumference had ten times 100,000 paces; 'but it was lost under Imperator Gallienus', and, after Romans had been transferred from there by Aurelian, two Dacias were made in the regions of Moesia and Dardania." In Festus: Breviarium of the Accomplishments of the Roman People (VIII.2). During Gallienus, a Roman usurper in the name of Regalianus proclaimed himself Augustus. According to them, he was a Dacian and descendant of Decebalus...of course impossible. But he died shortly one month later in 261 A.D
