V101 SPACE

On This Week in Space History… We Found a New World.
On September 23-24, 1846, astronomer Johann Galle pointed a telescope toward the night sky… and saw a faint dot of light exactly where mathematician Urbain Le Verrier had predicted it would be.

That faint dot was Neptune! The first planet ever discovered through mathematics before observation.
It proved our understanding of gravity was powerful enough to predict unseen worlds.

It’s wild to think… less than 200 years ago, humanity didn’t even know Neptune existed.

What do you think? Will we one day discover Planet Nine the same way, with math leading the way?

Thankfully, it won't be dependent on my math skills. 😅

@v22rap

India has already written ancient text with 9 planets thousands of years ago, at least 5,000 years ago 😂

Neptune has always been my favorite planet in our system. So mysterious.

Honestly, right now I don't think it'd be possible but that's not to say what happens 5, 10, or even 50 years in the future. Who knows what can happen. But as it currently stands, odds are we won't find a new planet, but most likely dwarf planets or something.

@iBrendan1579

If I were rich, I’d pay to put satellites around each of the planets in Sol, designed to be left there to monitor them indefinitely.

Let’s give it up for Neptune! Hurray!

Ancient civilizations had already discovered 9 planets , especially that of India

@kittyfire9231

Actually, in the India they already knew thousands of years ago. Just called the three, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, by the deity names of India, not by Greek and Latin.

@CaptainGoldberg

Planet 9 is Pluto. Planet 10nhasnyet to be discovered. I don't want to hear any of the planetary, astronomer spaceman mumbo jumbo, either. 😂

With all our technology today, I'm surprised they haven't found another planet in our solar system...
