The cards themselves are interesting. The whole death race isn't. The new lore cropping up from among the planes we haven't been to for a while is very nice. ❤️

Not a fan of this new pattern of sets that are just “let’s put the planeswalkers in costumes and let them fuck around somewhere.” I miss when Magic took their worlds and characters seriously

I personally strongly dislike aetherdrift. For me it has fallen in the same basket as karlov manor, thunder junction, and duskmourn of lazily dressing up our 'favourite' characters to sell some weird idea, whether it be detectives, cowboys, slasher films, or racers. I don't like this new direction of magic, and I think aetherdrift has been the most egregious version so far (except for maybe thunder junction) I feel like this also reflected in the limited environment. It felt.... Fragmented, incohesive, and confusing. I couldn't figure out how any of the cards were supposed to fit into a strategy, or even what those strategies were. We had great kindred cards for goblins, vampires, and dinosaurs.... But barely any support. We got discard synergies.... But not enough to actually make it viable. It all just felt.... Wrong

Liking individual cards more than I expected, disliking the theme and general vibe of the set as much as I expected. Tired of the disconnect between the set design and the worldbuilding/story, which I heard is really good actually. I miss Bloomburrow.

I viscerally dislike everything about it. Gave it one Prerelease to try (because hey, I had similar feels for Duskmourne and it surprised me.) It was even worse than I’d thought, no thanks. No more draft nights for me for a couple months. 😭 Guess I’m a Commander-only player for now. I’m happy for the people who like this mess, for whatever strange reason. It is Not For Me

I’m finding myself only paying attention to what is printed in the text box, everything else has become white noise.

I'm in the minority that doesn't hate the setting or aesthetic. I get why people wouldn't enjoy it but honestly I vibe with it

i think hashaton is neat but it does do what the slimefoot and squee list i brewed 8 days before preview season started does but better

Mechanics are fun, least favorite is the max speed, cards are for the most part really fun to play with, don’t know how it will hold up outside of limited but it was a good time.

I feel like sealed stuff for it is difficult to get a hang of because you can quite split between creatures and non - you gotta do a creature/vehicle/neither split. But I like the cards and mechanics, and honestly wanna get back into standard to make use of them (in a deck I have full control over lol).

I loved Kaladesh (actuall my first set I've ever played in Magic), I loved Amonkhet, the esthetics were so cool and fitting, so I'm happy to get some new cards for them (especially the Commander Decks around those which have nothing to do with the racing theme of the set); but with a grain of salt, because obviously it would have been so much better for those two planes to get their own full sets, after all what have happened on them after we've seen them last.

I think my specific criticism is a me thing. I dislike the set symbol from a design perspective. I find it distracts my eye from the card art and even the text box. It is the first thing my eye drifts to when I see an Aetherdrift card. A high contrast pattern like black/white checker board is very eye catching and I think it does a disservice to the art on the cards. A set symbol should not be the first thing I notice when looking at a magic card.

The story and setting ruled actually. This didn’t feel like “everyone was wearing a hat” it felt like everyone was there for a reason. Also Chandra got to be Loot’s favorite auntie so that’s nice

Im quite happy with it, seeing as it was my first prerelease, enjoyable asthetic and art, i got what i wanted, and i made new friends!

I had a lot of fun at the two events I attended. I don't have any problems with what others are calling "silly hat" sets. I personally didn't even think this one was all that noticable! It was neat to explore the Multiverse and learn so much about how many Planes got on after the Invasion. As someone who has been playing for 10 years now, the mechanics of the set were easy for me. However, I had many newer players at my events that got confused by saddling and crewing and who thought Exhaust was once per turn. It would have been nice if the insert in the kits explained the mechanics for newer players rather than advertise other products. SUPER excited to play more Limited on Arena this week

I wish the mechanics were a little more thematic and satisfying. Like boosting and cranking in Flesh and Blood

It's the flavor of the week. Let's just get ready for the next set coming.

I think the theme could have been handled better. The story might as well be nonexistent.

What is everyone's opinion of Aetherdrift? Do you like the setting and story? What about the mechanics? What do you think the most powerful cards?
