Oxenfree developer Night School Studio was acquired by Netflix Games Studio in 2021 with the streamer's plans to enter game development.
The layoffs were announced in January this year after Netflix closed their only AAA game studio, Team Blue last October.
Last November Matt Verdu was appointed Netflix's VP of GenAI for Games to push for "innovation in game development."
Verdu stated, "I am focused on a creator-first vision for AI, one that puts creative talent at the center, with AI being a catalyst and an accelerant."
