Whoever put "prohibited" in legislation needs to go through something.

This should have been a common sense requirement. Our heroes deserve to protected also!

That they weren’t allowed to do so says everything about this country’s priorities. But please, sir, save my poorly-placed McMansion!

Holy cow! I would have thought this to have been a basic requirement long, long ago especially after 9-11. Why is it that civil servants are treated with so little respect and regard? Thank you for standing up for our firefighters!

This SHOULD have been MANDATORY ages ago! I lost a Fire Fighter relative to Cancer before the Hazards were really understood and before everything was plastics.

I've been in a structure fire without a respirator. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. These hard workers need workplace protections!

Make sure the firefighters don't have to buy these respirators for themselves.

Thank you Senator Schiff and Senator Curtis for helping protect these firefighters. They all protect the rest of us and I'm glad they are finally getting protection they need.

Why were they "prohibited" from protecting themselves? Not making protection mandatory is one thing, but prohibiting? 🤔

What the actual f***! In Denmark the fire fighters dont do a thing without total protection. Theres nothing heroic about dying from preventable causes such as smoke inhalation. About freaking time id say!

Thats great! My good friend was a wildland firefighter with the HoCak DNR. He told me he was nervous to ever get called out to the California wildland fires because of the Santa Ana winds. They shift so quickly they can cause the firefighters to become entrapped and forced into flame. So I know The Santa Ana winds make the California wild fires some of the hardest to fight as it is. Thank you Senator Schiff!

Well done, Senator Schiff!🏆 You're always on top of the most important issues, and THIS was long overdue. Thank you for recognizing these men and women who place their lives in danger 💙🇺🇸

Honestly I am both surprised and, mostly, appalled that this was not already mandatory! Even volunteer departments have similar equipment! Thank you both for letting us all know and working this bill!

Way, way, way overdue. They risk their lives to put out fires and they should have been protected decades ago when the link between smoke and toxins was established with COPD and cancer. Shame on OSHA, y'all dropped the ball.

Maybe we should provide free healthcare for our firefighters as well

Thank you so much when it comes to our firefighters who we should protect at first line but mostly any government doesn’t seem to recognize. These heroes give their lives day out and day in Every single one of us should be grateful that we have them Thank you again

Common sense isn’t so “common” in DC! Thanks Sen. Curtis for a small slice of sanity. 😢

Sen. Adam Schiff
Until this year, wildland firefighters were prohibited from protecting themselves against hazardous smoke while battling a blaze.
My new bipartisan bill with Sen. John Curtis will create the first-ever respiratory protection requirements for firefighters.
