Nam’s Compendium

Normally, I don't do this, but I have to speak up or else there's a chance this will outright kill my channel. YouTube's new "restrictive mode" has been silently implemented client-side. This means that videos some dumb AI considers "too mature" will no longer be visible, even if you're subscribed to that channel. Nearly every single one of my videos was hit by this. Out of 81 videos, only these ones were considered "acceptable"

Nearly every single Persona and Shin Megami Tensei video I have made is now hidden from people with "restrictive mode" turned on. Keep in mind, people know me as the guy who talks about Megaten lol. But you would be hard-pressed to realize that based on this image of my channel.

If you want to continue to support your favourite creators, please go into your settings on every device you watch YouTube on and make sure that "restrictive mode" is turned off.

This has seriously demoralized me. I've been working on a redo of my old Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne video for a while now, and I have no idea if anyone will even see it when it's done. YouTube needs to fix this as soon as possible, or else a lot of your favourite creators won't be able to keep the lights on anymore.

Thank you for reading,

- Nick

mfw No More Heroes is considered "appropriate" but Sonic Chronicles is too mature.

You know what's the worst part? YouTube kids ALREADY exists. They're making things miserable for adults for the sake of hypothetical children that may or may not exist. When will people learn that you can't replace parenting with policy?

@PathBeyondTheDark

There is a lot of censorship going on in recent months. Youtube with its new I.D. policy, companies such as banks and credit issuers threatening Steam to remove "adult" conternt, "adult" sites being blocked in some states in the U.S. if they don't require photo I.D. to be accessed, the UK blanket banning many types of fictional content and requiring backdoors in sites and software, etc. All this in just a few months to a year. This needs as much attention as can get. It's not about children. It's about political and religious ideology at the expense of privacy and agency.

Hoping it's not a big deal. Seems like restrictive mode is off by default so maybe it'll only be a problem for your younger subscribers with parents who turned it on.

@kode-man23

Not sure if you’re still paying attention to this, but the prevailing consensus is that youtube no longer counts views from Desktops with an ad blocker. If you look at your metrics, you should see that the drop in views is only from people watching on computers.

Keep in mind, people with Restricted Mode turned on can't see community tab posts. I tried on multiple channels, including my own, and it simply says you can't view them on your device, even if you're on desktop like it tells you to.

I don't remember when I heard about that restricted stuff but I can confirm that I "Offed" that crap right at that time.

@BlooperTanooki

All your videos are constantly recommended to me still but I'll check again. I hate when people believe that restricting content from everyone is the solution to keep children safe instead of... I dunno, GOOD PARENTING?

@justaguy2182

And all because parents don’t want to do their jobs as parents and monitor what content their children are consuming on the internet. YouTubers are not babysitters.

V for Vendetta and 1984 by George Orwell both ring bells here

@Ratman36

Hopefully YT is looking into this because how many YouTubers are speaking about this but who knows so I'll say this is that youtubers like you NEED to put your content on other platforms like odyssey, rumble, and bitchute so if something like this happens again at least we can support and watch your video there.

You’re telling me devil children is considered too mature

@GamingWithSpoons

But YouTube commented on Twitter and said restricted mode wasn't turned on automatically despite multiple channels pointing out it indeed is.

@tomtalkstropes

Yeah, of 24 videos like, 5 of mine are actually viewable. One of them is about sakamoto days! That's fine but the live action one piece isn't?

@AceInSpades_07

I don’t think restricted mode is on by default because I did go check and it was already off for me but other people should make sure to still check themselves specially if you don’t want videos you like being taken out of your recommended
