Now that Qatar Airways has settled its dispute with Airbus, what do you think will happen to its Boeing 737 order?

@GregsWorkshopOregon

It's good to have a diverse fleet so you won't be completely shut down during the inevitable groundings.

@panjimoulana

I think it's just a sensational strategy to have both types of aircraft

The photos got leaked on the internet, where ex-S7 and ex-Air Italy Boeing 737-8MAX, were partially painted to Qatar Airways livery. The orders may be switched, I guess, also there is a quick replacement for their current A320ceo needed, that cannot succeed with only A321neo or B737-10MAX.

As for what Qatar should buy, the Max10 appears to be a poor choice. However factor in availability and discounts offered, there may well be a good business case for it. Although I have no proof, based on the fact that Qatar fought hard against the A321 cancellations, I can not help but wonder if the A321 was so much of a better fit for them, that it became imperative for them to come to an agreement over the A350's paint issues.

They will operate them, crew are already being trained on the 737

With Qatar Airways buying a 49% stake in RwandAir, do some of the MAXs end up in Kigali?

Worse case scenario if either the Neo or MAX develop a serious problem that affects airworthiness, the other aircraft type isn’t affected. We’ve seen with airBaltic putting all their eggs in the A220 basket, engine problems over the past few years have bitten them. They’ve pulled through, but there’s is definitely risk. With a fleet as diverse as Qatar’s, I don’t think adding one more aircraft type would put a massive dent in their wallets, especially because Boeing looks to be heavily discounting new MAX aircraft.

@drbadzer

They will switch to the wide bodies.

When did this happen? Did you make a video about it??

@josephaskins1996

The two types have different strengths and are better suited for slightly different missions, albeit that Qatar has chosen to take on some Max 8s, but has not publicly canceled the Max 10s, this presents a scenario where they could ultimately end up operating various Max aircraft, including the -10, and may even exercise options to that end. That said, it is not unheard of for carriers to want both types, assuming the fleets are large enough, and the carriers prefer fleet diversity to fleet commonality, such as Delta, the other airline that ordered the Max 10 at last year's Airshow, already operates the A321neo, then there are the likes of British Airways and Air India who also either already operate or will operate the A320neo family, but have significant Max orders as well, specifically for the Max 8 and 10 in Aor India's case, though I can't remember the BA types off the top of my head. All of this indicates to me that the aircraft can perform the same missions, as well as slightly different missions better than the other. So the idea of an airline operating both types is not rare for a large airline the likes of Qatar, and while cancelations are possible for the Max, it is more likely that they operate both types on slightly differing missions.

Swapped for 787s

I think that Qatar will use that Boeing credit on some 787s. I doubt that Qatar ever really, truly wanted the MAX, they wanted the NEOs and this order was just a tit-for-tat response to the cancellation. I'm certain that MAX is a fine plane but it has fewer seats, less range, and Qatar doesn't have an 737 pilots

Boeing would have made sure to have a water tight contract so that QR wouldn't be able to just walk away from the MAX if they became friends with Airbus again all of a sudden. Boeing knew they had QR over a barrel.

@cnordegren

Convert the order to more 787 of 777F.
