The Homesteading RD

I hope you’re all doing well after that cold snap! We hit -30F here two nights in a row. I’m hoping that knocks the pests down for my 2025 garden 🙏🏼. We’ll see! We’re all doing well and the chickens are hanging in there like champs (check out my coop winterization video for my tips 🫶🏼).

With that, we’re still in the depths of winter and it’ll be a while until it’s gardening season, so I’m curious… what kind of content do you want to see from me during these off months? I’d love to hear from you!

I’m in Mn (north of cities, south of Duluth) zone 4b. I would love watching your indoor seed starting, with what you’re starting and when. As you start them indoors for future outdoor planting. Absolutely love your content!

Do you plan your garden out on paper? Garden journal? How many plants to feed your family for the year? For example, around how many green bean plants? How many winter squash plants?

@jannawgarden

Your recipes are awesome! Keep them coming! Also, any type of planning you do in the winter. Journaling, mapping out your garden, etc..

Maybe a video on your dogs. They are adorable! What you feed them, how you manage fleas and ticks, etc.

@SlowSimpleSeasonal

The off-grid content and just general homestead projects have been great to see (just interesting to see what goes on in the off-seasons--it's homestead life, right? And Ryan explains and teaches so well; its educational and entertaining at the same time), but pantry meals or whatever you cook using preserved items always inspires me to try something new or switch things up. 🙂 Thanks for all your work! We enjoy it! (My kids' favorite video is the trail tour with the doggies in tow. My toddler asks to put that one on frequently, and we love the peace and the views of the video!

How you use your canned pantry! I always struggle with what I’d do with a cantry to justify building one up. :)

@ReginaGlick

I know canning slows down a ton in the winter but I love to see winter canning projects like broth or things that are canned out of the freezer
