I remember the the word association test skit he performed with Chevy Chase on SNL. That was hilarious!

His LSD bit in the monologue during the first season of SNL. Genius!

I loved that he could laugh at himself. I specifically remember him doing the joke with a bouncing flame. "What's this? Me, running down the street." He knew what people were saying about him and rolled with it.

Saw this GENIUS in Atlanta, Mid 70’s (probably @ “Fabulous Fox” Theatre). His ability to instantly shift persona was uncanny, and I do not think I have ever laughed that hard. Absolutely UNIQUE spirit, and I’m grateful for his timeless body of work. His personal history from an early age molded a strong man. Respect. 🙏🏻

"1.50 worth of cocaine" made my street life older sister laugh so hard, she threw up. And then kept laughing at it for several days. She would tell me that she'd think about it and just bust out laughing.

The Richard Prior Show aired from 1977-1978. It was both funny and controversial. I remember the Raymond J Johnson (You can call me Ray..) and Idi Amin Da Da sketches. The show was produced by Rocco Urbisci for Burt Sugarman Productions.

On his network tv show, he did a bit on being the first black president. Next was his SNL bits with Chevy and as the black samurai with Belushi. All, his live albums. Collaboration with Flip Wilson.

His and Gene Wilder's movies were some of the funniest I've ever seen! Their pairing could have started earlier, Richard Prior wrote "Blazing Saddles" with Mel Brooks, with the goal of Richard playing Sheriff Bart. However, the film company's insurance company did not want someone with his serious of a drug problem in the movie, because there would no guarantee that he could finish the movie. This is strange because Mel cast Gig Young, who was also known around Hollywood to have a serious drinking problem, as the Waco Kid. Poor Gig Young, it was the first shot on Friday, nine in the morning, and an ambulance came and took him away. So, the insurance was good with an Alky, not a druggie. Gene Wilde was brought in to play the Waco Kid. If it had worked out Richard and Gene could have worked together sooner.

I remember "The Toy" when I was 6. Not a bad flick.

I remember when I was a young boy thinking he was a nice man. I was shocked to hear him use the N-word, a word I had heard delivered with hatred many time. I was touched by his friendship with Gene Wilder, who I saw as another very nice, gentle man. I was horrified by the fire incident. All along, he taught me to view the world with a different perspective.

His grandfather attacked a guy in Peoria. The guy survived but was a paraplegic.

If you did not laugh at one of his shows, there’s something terribly wrong with you. He was great. It was so nice before everything became politically correct.😂😂
