I never rescued a dog and wasn’t in the market for one after I put down the best shepherd ever. I’ve had shepherd s my whole life and love them but it was heart breaking putting her down. Fast forward a year and My son’s friend knew we loved shepherds and told my son that a German shepherd was abandoned at a vets office for three months. I was originally against it but in a moment of weakness (after 5 old fashions) I said ok to taking a look at him. The initial encounter was a disaster, he was growing and probably would have attacked if let out of his cage. The assistant told me he was a sweet dog when you get to know him. I was going to say no when I noticed the dog had been chewing himself because he’d been locked up in a cage for 3 months. So we had a family meeting and we decided to adopt him. He had some quirks that had to be straightened out but after about a year or two he’s probably the best behaved dog I’ve ever had. It took an awhile just to let people in the house but at this point he lets anyone in who I let in. The only thing I can’t albeit vastly improved get out of him is he’s a car chaser. He is my first rescue and I couldn’t be happier

My first rescue was charming and energetic, a bit difficult at first, but we managed to figure things out with the help of a vet who knew dog psychology. Our second one was a bit of an introvert, now he’s a calm, sweet dog who loves children, dogs and he wants to meet strangers. He’s enjoying life :)

I have 3 pets, 2 of them rescues, the other I bought from someone that didn’t want her so I really consider her a rescue too. All I can afford at the time, unfortunately.. I love them

I went to adopt a dog never made into the door. Found one in the parking lot. She was a great dog. I want another but 16-17 hour work days are getting in the way.

Rescues can be purebred or mixed. I have had both rescue dogs from shelters, unwanted dogs, dogs purchased from breeders, and gifts. I've generally had great luck with all of them. The worst cases were either bad hips, or the several very nutty purebreds that were gifts to my vet husband from clients. (I begged him not to bring home free purebreds anymore). Pro's and con's: With an adult dog, you don't have to go through the puppy stage and all of the destructive behavioral issues if it is too much for you. With an adult dog, you already know their personality, and some are already trained. Con's: With an adult dog, you may have trauma or other behavioral issues to work through. We did adopt an old Lab once to train our 2 young pups (Lab and Aussie), mostly to keep them from running off too far on our ranch. That can work, too. Two or three of my best, and I've had a few, were shelter/unwanted/neglected. Right now I have a Blue Heeler and a mix who are besties, and adopted. Be open.

I have always favored the mixed breed dogs. I have adopted several beautiful dogs from rescues.

Honestly no. I wish i could but i have a muscular disease and i’m afraid adopting is going to be difficult for me cause i don’t know how the dog is. If the dog needs let’s say ā€œfixingā€ i’m afraid i can’t. I don’t know where the dog came from and the background story. So i’m afraid šŸ˜” But if i didn’t had a muscular disease i would definitely adopt!!! ā¤ Cause it is a wish to adopt the oldest dog or cat or what people call the ugliest dog or cat and i would love to adopt them

I've rescued in the pass some huskies, a malamute and some German shepherds. I have non rescue rough collies now and they are my fav breed (probably won't get anyother in the future except maybe smooth collie). I don't really see rough collies in shelters around here thankfully, but if I did I'd make sure they didn't get put down at the very least and pick them up on the last day if they weren't adopted.

Most rescues need an even more skilled owner than a young pup, due to their past.

I don't have a backyard, they said I had to have a backyard. So no. I had to buy my chihuahua. He's loved just the same, so it's okay with me.
