ELIJAH CHARGED them to CHOOSE ONE (GOD or DEVIL).
The GOOD NEWS for them came in the CONTEST BETWEEN the GOD OF ELIJAH and BAAL on MOUNT CARMEL.
850 Prophets of Baal and Asherah assembled to DEMONSTRATE that their IDOL was the PREFERRED ONE to be WORSHIPPED.
For about NINE HOURS, they CRIED, ROLLED on the GROUND and EVEN CUT themselves with KNIVES as an ACT OF DEVOTION MEANT to ROUSE their god to ACTION but to NO AVAIL.
There was no ANSWER, NO RESPONSE and NO BODY RESPONDED.
