808S & Heartbreak was the first album to truly go in-depth with auto tune and 808s. There wasn’t a project before that, or I’d argue, since that, has captured a sound and ran with it to the point of it becoming an essential to music across any and all genres.

Obviously 808s was very influential but people are sleeping on the Yeezus production style. That was the album where people at the time were calling it wack because it was so far removed from the hiphop sounds at the time. Now rappers like Travis Scott and Carti all were formed by it

It's extremely difficult to find any modern-style hip-hop artist that doesn’t have at least SOMETHING that can be traced back to 808s. Kanye really defined pop-rap as a genre.
