For decades, rumors circulated about a great video game burial that occurred in the 2020s. One day, the dig site was found--a scarred landfill once known as the San Francisco Bay Area. Excitement and buzz abounds as the games are finally unearthed. Forspoken and The Avengers. A few Balan Wonderworlds for good measure. "Just...put them back."

There's a lot more to the E.T. story than the landfill. The license, the market crash, and the nostalgia for the Atari days were what really made people care enough to still be spreading the rumor 30 years hence.

I mean no joke Funko is throwing away $30 Million of their stupid little plastic statutes in an Arizona landfill because they can't sell them.

It's only the steel books so probably just unsold promo packaging and not the actual game.

I think it will just be a time capsule of terrible. Forspoken, magic cards, and funco pops. A pit of broken dreams and repressed memories.

It's tragic really... For Luminous Productions I mean. Established in 2018, only one game released, and they're folded back into Square Enix a mere month after release. Every studio had potential, but whoever was in charge of this dumpster fire of a project screwed over the whole studio.

So where is this landfill? A free game's a free game! Now if only I can find a landfill with PS5's...

Gotta love it when companies would rather throw out/burn their product then just give it away for free! 💵

If you look hard enough, you might find copies of the Saints Row Reboot too

Wow, it's almost like writing a terrible female protagonist was a bad idea.

If it's just the steelbook without the game, it could be pre order bonuses being dumped instead of being just given out, I know some previous game stores I've been too are super strict and will not give out excess pre order goodies even with a day one purchase. Or they are returns to the company who has gone idk, throw em out lol.

Copies of Forspoken are now turning up in landfill sites.
Do you think in 30 years time people will be digging for these "legendary terrible games" in dumps, as they did with E.T.?
