TOROKHTIY

one story from life.
——
I learned both split and power jerk from day one. Split was the main lift; power was an accessory to reset timing and coordination.
.
But split always felt like a dance. I kept chasing the bar and couldn’t lock it in stable overhead.
.
Year 4–5, after a few rough meets where the jerk killed my total, I asked my coach to switch to power. He said no, my positions weren’t ready.
.
So I fixed them: narrow‑grip Sots press and daily overhead mobility. When the positions clicked, we made the switch.
.
At the switch my best split jerk was 190 kg. Six months later I hit 205 kg from the rack with the power jerk.
.
From then on I could jerk ~10 kg more than I could clean. In 2015-2018 I chased 260-hit 255; six misses at 260 are still in my head.
.
My take: start with split, then test power. Going power > split almost never sticks. Most world records are still split, but I expect more power jerkers ...
