Note to all students: The main purpose of these classes is to question what the professor says. This was one of the first lessons my high school teacher, Mr. Biagini, taught us when we were moving from Kant to Hegel. Professors don’t want us to passively accept what we’re told — they want us to use our brains and think critically. Whenever we finished studying a major thinker like Schopenhauer, he would ask, “Was he right?” And most of us would mumble, “Yeah, definitely.” Then he’d introduce another philosopher who would completely challenge the previous one such as Kierkegaard, or Nietzsche or Heidegger. That’s the essence of philosophical inquiry, the constant questioning and re-examining of ideas.

Thank you for posting this stuff, I never got the chance to get a higher education but I have such a thirst for knowledge, now I can learn for free while I do housework! Also your work provides some emotional solace for me in the face of such evil and genocide in the world. I often find myself asking ‘how can these people be so evil and uncaring?’ And listening to you helps me understand how we got to this point.

You see humanity as a whole. Cooperation over competition. He just wants his message to reach as many as possible. That’s absolutely radical 💛

Read the substack. Currently I am 27 and hella worried about future and money, retiring early with enough money and give the best future for my kids. So naturally I subscribed to the "Hustle Culture" and it completley took away my peace. Watching your videos just made me more anxious for my future as well as my kids'. BUTTTT, reading this just sooooothed me. You may not be rich but you are such a good role model Prof. Jiang. Not chasing after money, not giving such power to money, recognising the Devil that comes along with the money is something I needed to hear. Developing the best character, trusting the Universe and loving my family are my priorities now. For that, thank you

Much respect for staying true to your values and not monetizing. Just worth noting: since 2020, YouTube still runs ads on such videos and keeps the revenue. It could be even more meaningful if that money went to charity or good causes instead. Wish you all the best.

The best thing in life is to have a calm and joyful heart to create a good atmosphere when you are reading bedtime stories to your children, or, in my case, to my grandchildren

Even if you don't monetize the videos, ads still show. Turning on monetization just means you get your 55% cut of the ad revenue from the video, instead of right now YouTube getting 100%.

You are very wise. When you accept huge amounts of cash, you are “making a deal with the Devil.” And The Devil ALWAYS comes to collect what he is owed. Much respect to you, Sir!
