Evolve Mixed Martial Arts

If you’re looking for inspiration to stick it through tough times, look no further than our latest addition to the #WarriorsOfEvolve community.

32 year-old sales development representative Jun Matsumoto is perhaps the epitome of perseverance, determination and dedication. After all, he moved halfway across the world to pursue his love for mixed martial arts (MMA)!

This fascination began as a child after attending K-1 events with his father. He started training in MMA, but after hearing about the first-rate instructors at Evolve MMA from MMA and grappling wunderkind Shinya Aoki (his instructor then), he moved to Singapore to train in BJJ and Muay Thai at Evolve MMA.

Jun may be one of the few non-professional martial artists who has shaped his life to revolve around martial arts, keeping his lifestyle simple to focus on his martial arts journey.

Yet his martial arts journey has not been smooth. Jun participated in an MMA competition in 2014 and lost in the first minute of the first round. MMA, once an object of fascination, became a source of anxiety. But he persevered, and in 2021, Jun secured his greatest achievement thus far: he secured his first win in MMA.

An authentic Warrior of Evolve, Jun has focused solely on unleashing his greatness through MMA. His understanding of greatness, however, is not just about the physical side of martial arts, but also overcoming anxiety and becoming the very best version of himself:

“As we age, there is a fear that what we can do today, we may not be able to do tomorrow, but we will have the wisdom to resist it. [...] [I want] to fight in a way that will win the fight. I want to combine my knowledge and experience to overcome many opponents.”

Jun Matsumoto-san, we at Evolve MMA are proud to include you among the ranks of #WarriorsOfEvolve!
