Using light side is intrisically harder than using dark side. Controlling the dark side is really just using your anger and hate and using the light side is all about control, you need to control your emotions and your thoughts etc. Of course the skill "floor" is higher for dark, everyone can get angry. The light's "floor" is lower but the people who have a good control on the light and/or balance are always at the top of star wars power. In my opinion, the light side and dark side potential are pretty equal, what I mean is dark is pretty easy to use but incredibly hard to master like light. Thats why there are people who are extremely strong on both sides.

The Dark Side is strong but it feels like it has a level cap. While the Light Side is slower and more passive it has a higher ceiling of power.
