The Elephant Graveyard

I'm doing an hour long show on NTS Radio tonight at 9PM EST. It's on the Night Shift show (which rules by the way). It's kind of like Radio Hour but also not really at all! It was inspired by late night radio, insomnia, unexplainable memories, nightmares, and the wonderful nature of intrusive thoughts. Please enjoy.

Many thanks to Diamondstein for the invite to collab.

About Night Shift:

Anyone that's ever worked a "night shift" (bars, hospitals, taxis, etc.) knows that there's a strange time of night, usually around 4:30-5:30 am, when the most subtle sounds of the world seem extra dramatic. The example I usually use is the sound of a lighter dropping at a gas station. Or the sound of wind through palm trees. The kind of sounds that you don't get the chance to hear when the rest of the world is aroused, but in the context of more ambient, experimental, and dark music, is inspiring and suggestive. It's the music of film noir, Miles Davis, and Edward Hopper paintings, but also early AM radio classical music, Boards of Canada, Sunn 0))), Headless Horseman, Wolves in the Throne Room, whatever. Night shift always takes on the flavor of the guest's preference but is built around that time of night, and the music that makes you think or feel it.

@Cyores

There is something special about this guy. His latest edit gave me emotions similar to when I first listened to Burial's album Untrue.

You got me and my son hooked, brother. Like others have said, your shit is familiar in a weird way. Liminal audio. Don’t ever stop.

As long as you complete the combo saga eventually, I’ll be there. But I still need one more final wash down to feel complete 👀 I’m still contemplating life after the story of the potato farme

Edit: Find it here: https://www.nts.live/shows/diamondstein/episodes/diamondstein-15th-january-2025 If you (like me) find the NTS site a little chaotic to navigate: Just search "Night Shift" in the search bar at the top. First result should be the series, and takes you to all the previous shows. As of now, 9am EST the day after, it looks like it hasn't been uploaded/posted yet, but I'm imagining this is where we'll find it. 👍🏻 Missed it live myself, so can't wait

loved it. best listen since The Golding Institute’s Final Relaxation. i feel like if we knew eachother back in the day we would have dropped acid and played tag in the forest with marine flares.

@SHARK-EATINGCAT

About once a month the power will go out at my place, usually at night. It's so dark, that what little light makes it through the trees and into my window, cannot illuminate the far wall of my bedroom enough for me to see. When I stand at the window in the dark, I can see only the edge of my bed, and the silhouettes of trees. There is no sound, even the feral cats around here seem to know the world has stopped, because I've never heard them fight or yowl during an outage. It's just me, the darkness, and the wind. I think that's the only time I'm really existing. The rest is just facade, excuses to occupy my mind and time. Every other sensation in my life was constructed by humans to escape what I experience when the power goes out. Thank god it goes out. Thank god I am forced to remember what it's like to be real.
