Weird how the same people who say that Traditionalists are “too rigid” are also saying you’re not allowed to have an open discussion or even show a slight interest in the oldest form of liturgy of our Holy Mother Church. I don’t understand why people are so upset that some Catholics prefer to not sit through a performative and Protestant-like iteration of liturgy that’s only existed since the 60’s. It’s so bizarre to me that they can’t handle other Catholics wanting an ancient tradition. I go to a NO parish by the way, and it’s had 3 different priests in the last 5 years. The priests obviously set the tone. Some have been very reverent, others have made each Mass about themselves -and it shows. It seems to me that this is a problem for priests to be able to insert themselves into what should be the worship of Christ.

It's a beautiful series. Very well produced. Just take it with a grain of salt and take care to assess it rationally, paying attention to solid critiques. I was VERY emotionally roused by this series, and it took me a long time to get over it. Like many others have said here, please consult the Dominicast critiques of this series.

I don't understand all the comments on the sspx. This documentary has very little to do with them other than explain its foundation. There are other groups out there that are completely valid and licit. Most people are just to sensitive to hear the truth about the origins of the Novus Ordo. While still good and beautiful in many ways, the TLM is a vastly superior litergy, not to mention all the division the changes have caused in the Church.

Dear Matt Fradd, as someone raised in the SSPX, I'm so sorry you have become sympathetic to the SSPX. There are so many that have no idea what the SSPX actually stands for, including many prominent apologists. The Mass of the ages had their own TLM location list for when people are traveling. On this list, as options of places to attend a TLM Mass, they list SSPX chapels as well. Therefore they are encouraging people to attend an illicit Mass. Valid but illicit, which really is a big deal. Yes, if you don't know any better you can attend but if one knows a priest is celebrating Mass illicitly, they should not attend. A priest that celebrates a Mass illicitly is no different than a husband cheating on his wife. Yes the act is valid but is it illicit? Yes! Does it do harm to the husband's relationship to his wife? Yes! The SSPX, doesn't accept any saints since Vatican II. They call Divine Mercy diabolical and say all sorts of scandalous stuff about Saint Faustina. They teach and print in their examination of conscience, if you actively participate in a NO Mass it's a sin against the 3rd commandment. They handle their own annulments. My brother got an annulment from the local diocese and he was told that he could never receive any sacraments from sspx chapels since he didn't get an annulment from them. People in my family won't even associate with my brother's wife and kids. Honestly Matt, when you attended the SSPX chapel by accident, the second you realized who they were you should have left. Trust me, they will pull you in and it is a cult. People making judgements and statements about the SSPX who know nothing about them is like a cardiologist treating a cancer patient.

Every Mass is beautiful if you have an open heart and faith.

Theres more than sspx out there! Try FSSP or ICKSP ( my parish is!!). Theyre in communion with the Pope and utilize and encourage TLM. I like ICKSP for Not being so rigid as other TLMs have been. I personally think All Catholics should have exposure to Latin Mass not just NO, as well as other Rites within our church like Maronite or Byzantine. Our church is Universal and should be appreciated As Such!

I attend "Latin mass" every Sunday. Love the people there. That being said, the reforms of the missal were desired by the Holy Spirit. Tried many times, but it is extremely difficult to bring converts and even lifelong Catholics to the older form of the mass.

The series was good in terms of promoting the beauty of the TLM and about what we lost do the spirit of V2, but there’s enough misinformation sprinkled in as well that I can’t outright endorse it.

What are people talking about the SSPX here for? This series had nothing to do with the SSPX and I don’t remember a single member being interviewed. This series does not claim V2 or the NO are invalid.

Dominicast has a great series debunking Mass of the Ages. Go to Latin Mass if you wish, but don’t fall for this kind of propaganda. (This is actually what the SSPX teaches - I spent 27 years in the SSPX and 14 years in their schools.)

All I know is, if Scott Hahn would have walked into a Latin Mass that first time? He probably wouldn’t have come to the same conclusion and maybe? Not become catholic 🤔

I appreciate you promoting MotA, Matt. Even though it seems like your cohorts aren't so pleased. As a non-SSPX person myself, I wasn't so scandalized by these films, but I think there are many that feel immediately defensive when someone points out the absolute deficiencies of the NO, as well as the wicked intentions behind its arrangement. Maybe it makes people feel convicted? I don't get it, I can't even attend a TLM regularly in my position, and I don't feel guilty or defensive about it, just a desire for something better for my spiritual life.

Im really suprised your promoting this. Not because its right or wrong. But because of the division and havoc it has and continues to make. Im surprised you didnt know that there was/is alot of old controversy surrounding mass of the ages

Mass "of the Ages"? What about the Eastern Catholic Churches? Hearing a lot from what they say, I could see why they get so annoyed at the Latin Church. The Extraordinary Form is beautiful indeed and it is because people that do it want to make it done so. The unfortunate thing is the Ordinary Form could also be beautiful as well And there are examples of parishes that do it. I started watching the series and there are things that they point out that should be things we should ask of why it was done, but the problem is it's just filled with so many cherry picking arguments or comparison fallacies. It's just weird to label things as "traditional" to describe what people desire. I've heard the progressives use the same term for receiving communion in the hand because back in the day that's what they did and that's what they would call "traditional". Should we aim for sacred and reverent celebrations? I'm a fan of it. Even the charismatic stuff that I'm not too much of a fan of, I try to give leniency towards when I talk with those that follow it because of what they find in scripture. It just becomes the classic case of the charismatic and the traditional one where the former clings to the heart but forgets the law and the lather is the inverse. There's a lot of words that people throw around as well that are just misnomers. Love your conversations on your channel Matt!

You all do realize that reps from the SSPX declined to be interviewed for this docuseries, right? Oh but you didn’t watch it so that’s why you are saying ridiculous stuff like, “This is just SSPX propaganda.”
