Since the recent explosion of artificial intelligence technology in mainstream culture, I have been bombarded with questions about what role AI has in the creation of these videos. So here are some FAQs.

How is AI used in these videos? It's used to upscale the original footage from 1080p (sometimes 720p) to 4K.

How does AI upscaling work? It works by analyzing the existing pixels in a video and using sophisticated algorithms to generate new pixels to fill in the gaps, and increase the overall resolution. The artificial intelligence learns from other high resolution models and attempts to restore, and in some cases recreate a very low detail attribute in the image to draw what it believes to be a true representation of what the image is supposed to look like. But it is not perfect. In some cases, the results may be less than optimal, particularly if the original source material is of very low quality or the type of AI used is not configured properly for the type of image it's trying to upscale.

What AI software are you using? Cupscale AI is the application. It uses ESRGAN as the AI brain. (Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks). I use DaVinci Resolve for video editing.

How long does it take to upscale a video? 20 minutes to upscale a 6 second video with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GPU.

Did you alter the appearance of the model in any way other than AI upscaling and slow mo? No.

So she's a real person? Yes.
