Depends on the project. Down to the studs and start over could be very expensive.

All depends on the project. If you are doing simple rip and replace reno (replacing all things with new but not moving the location of the objects) and doing all the labor by yourself, then your only cost is materials which should go between 3-5k. If you are planning to move the location of bathtub/shower or planning to convert from bathtub to shower (vice versa) then the cost goes up significantly more. In either cases, it's the labor that's going to cost you the most if you are planning to hire someone to do it.

Two years ago we got rid of a tub and put in a shower with a built in shower seat with 2 large light green frosted sliding doors. You walk in, and so convenient. We put in a new window, a new counter with sink and new sink fixtures. New tile floor and subway tile from the floor up to shoulder height. Looks great, light and airy. Also pained it light blue and added a new exhaust fan, twice the size of the old one. We want to make sure there is not a mold or mildew issue. I think the total was over $12K.
