The Renegadist

IMPORTANT!!

Ok now that I lied it's time for the announcement, so if you've been following on streams or in the Discord I've mentioned the possibility of switching from streaming to YouTube/Twitch to just streaming to Twitch alone and using the YT channel as a VOD archive similar to a lot of other streamers. This has been on my mind for a couple months now and today I'm here to say I'll be doing so at the end of March. This hasn't been a quick or easy choice, I've been mulling it over in my head for awhile now, weighing pros and cons, but in the end this is what I decided on.

What lead to this? Well, first of all both platforms are shit, no one with a good brain among them will say that one platform is "good" or "gooder" than the other and both have their own horrible way of doing things but after the way YouTube has treated myself (and other people recently) I've decided to abandon hope of growing the channel via streaming on YouTube and move to Twitch where I'm not only actually put out there for people to find but the chances of it becoming a "career" has much greater odds than if I stayed on YouTube. This isn't to say Twitch is perfect because honestly I think it's shit but the one thing they do right is actually get your name and "brand" out there for others to easily find and support whereas you're a drop of water in the bucket on YouTube except YouTube takes your drop out of the bucket and puts it in another bucket with all the other little drops just waiting to die.

What does this mean for you guys? Well nothing, whether you have a Twitch account or not you can still watch without any issues aside from the quality being locked at 720p60FPS and if you miss the stream the VOD's will be published on the YT channel just as they always have been. I don't expect everyone will have a Twitch account nor will want to get one and honestly I would say it isn't worth it to make an account just to talk in my chat but I do hope everyone who participates in the chat now will migrate over because I legit have the best chat on the platform filled with really cool people and getting as many of you guys over as possible is the best case scenario but not required by any means. This also means once I become affiliated on Twitch you can choose to support me monthly via "Subs" which is basically monthly Patreon support but via Twitch as well as donate "Bits" and other things.

What will be changing? One of the major things is the quality of the streams via the bitrate, I discovered YouTube horribly bitcrushes the stream either during or afterward which has viewers losing a ton of detail. This is when I discovered Twitch doesn't do this or rather their codec is much higher quality giving you guys the best quality possible at all times. The other big thing is the monetary aspect, now while I still consider streaming a hobby a wise man once said "If you think you're good at something, chase that something until you achieve your goal" and actually I just said that myself but if I have the chance to grow the channel and eventually make it a career then goddammit I'm going to do my best to get there! This means eventually once I hit 50 followers I'll be able to accept "bits and subs" mainly subs which will allow people to basically subscribe to the channel every month so that I can get a stable income. It's Patreon but done through Twitch. One other thing, unrelated to Twitch, will be higher quality VOD's on YT. I've decided to record every stream I do while streaming and if I can get away with it I'll record at higher quality than I stream so once the VOD gets on YT it will be in super high quality for anyone to enjoy any time vs. using the VOD provided by YT or Twitch. Since Twitch mutes a ton of music this means the streams will mostly be the same as they are when done live but in HD quality. Win win situation.

What won't be changing? Well everything else really, the streams will function the same, I'll play the same games, and I'll act and be the same including what I say. I won't be pandering or censoring myself on Twitch and will continue to be who I am unmoved and unapologetic. The only small thing that I'll have to avoid will be playing banned games on Twitch but in those cases I'll just stream those solely on YouTube so we can get around that. Considering the platform is very PC focused if anyone is worried I'll be changing myself to fit in I think Twitch has a whole 'nother thing coming. Another annoying thing I see in other streams are all kinds of annoying and distracting screen effects, I will not be doing this. Everything I do on screen will be done in OBS and that usually consists of chat on screen, permadeath stats, and other small things from time to time. If anyone is worried my streams will become clusterfucks you don't have to sweat it. I don't like that shit in other people's streams and I won't put it in mine.

Anyhow, that is it. So to re-iterate, at the end of March/beginning of April I'm going to be switching to solely streaming on Twitch, recording the VOD's live while streaming, and then uploading them to YouTube for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday publishing just as I always have. No one is required to make an account or switch over but I do hope people do switch so we don't lose anybody. Any games I want to play that are banned on Twitch will be streamed exclusively on YT to avoid issues and the rest of the games I play/want to play will be done on Twitch. Streams will look, sound, and function the same aside from the quality being stuck at 720p60FPS on Twitch. Eventually I will become Affiliate and we can work toward making this a career. Finally, VOD's will be recorded in higher quality than the stream itself so anyone watching VOD's on YT will be able to enjoy them in crisp HD.

I'm excited for what the future holds as well as a bit nervous since this goes outside of what I'm used to, whether this plays out good is up in the air but I'm hyped to see where this new path goes and I hope you guys are too!

I would like to hear what you guys think, drop some comments below this post and I'll give them a read!
