NASCompares

Happy Sunday, everyone! I am still trying to figure out if there is much of an audience for the 'RAID Room' series - it's been viewed plenty, but still no idea whether fully publishing them all will harm the channel analytics or help them! Almost certainly gonna publish the RAID5 v RAID6 one later today, but just so I can "read the room" a bit, which one would you prefer to see next (or not at all!)? Cheers everyone.

Top Tip - If you are ordering a roast dinner at the pub today, always ask for extra gravy. Don't hesitate, just ask. You will thank me later.

I watch nearly every video you put out do what's best for your channel. We will continue to learn from you and Eddie. 👍

Im deep in the DJI ecosystem now days, Pocket 3 x 2, Action 4 x2, Mic 2 Tx × 5 Mix 2 Rx x 2. I would love to see the multi-receiver/camera sync with time code built in to future cameras. Sure I know it may mean some slightly added bulk, but, being able to sync different Pocket and Action Cameras automatically would be game changing. It gets tricky mounting the receivers to these types of cameras (Pocket 3, Action etc). Currently we (wife and I) wear 2 mics each, one connected to each camera) and then try to sync the audio across the two.

I think more people need to learn the basic art of storage tiering. The RAID series tackles (currently) a single solution. One and done. Hybrids are starting to address this, but with the same pcie lane impeding core. Making them stretched out false promises.

I don’t understand the 45 drives love and never will. That’s got my vote

Some topics are needed for people newer to storage, I will still watch a minute, give a like and look for questions to answer in the comments. Grow the channel, the seagulls need feeding

I'm assuming that quite a few people looking to buy a NAS may not necessarily know beyond the technical specs and your reviews what the device can do for them. You talked recently for example about how on a 5 or 6 bay NAS you would have one disk set as a hot spare. Perhaps some more videos on setting up the various configurations, who you think it would suit the most etc could be part of your series?

@markconger8049

I’ve been in IT my entire adult life and even some in high school and college. I’m old. The thing I’ve noticed in Facebook groups and other places where tech questions are asked is that people don’t really get what RAID is. Some think it’s a backup (it isn’t.) Some think it’s just for data redundancy. Some believe it isn’t necessary at all. I don’t know where they get their info. And I don’t know how to solve the problem of incorrect information about RAID. Education in a video series seems like a great resource if done right. But will it be popular? Will there be grass roots interest in it? I’m not thinking so. But what do I know. I was born in the 60s.

@CommanderEllisWard

Consider creating a second channel for the more esoteric stuff to avoid impacting your main channel analytics. Much like Technology Connections has the Conextras channel for deep dive minutiae that fewer are interested in.

@Stigcrafter

I’m voting for HDD vs SSDs but for the record I’m keen for some more portable NAS content (I already have a StationPC in the mail but still want to know if I picked the right one)

@MobiusGT

big updates coming very soon to hexos so i would defintely wait on that before making another hexos video

@Pegaroo_

Why HDDs still exist is easy, cost per TB and larger capacities. No need for a video on it IMHO

@TheFailman69

I have hexos and the only thing it was really good for was initial set up and giving me confidence to dip my toes into truenas, which I guess was worth the $100 I spent, but not what I thought I’d receive

@ShaneBro

I mean make them all. I think there is enough interest in all. I have HexOS but would love to see the other configs.

@jc57965i

Honestly not interested in HexOS when established other options like proxmox and truenas exist. I bought into the unraid license and while i like the ui i don't like the simplicity of some of their options
